My name is Marnie Grocott. I am 12 years old and I was born on July 7, 2013. I am Welsh and live in Wales.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Welsh and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 4 years old, but I began competing regularly when I was 9.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes. My younger sister also plays tennis in the U9 category.
Where do you train?
I train at Colwyn Bay Tennis Centre, Denbigh Tennis Club, Bidston Tennis Centre, and attend county training sessions at Wrexham Tennis Centre.
What is your coaching team?
My coaching team is First Advantage Tennis. My main coach is John Whitehall. My county coaches are Vicky Broadbent and Morgan Cross, and my other coaches are Max Enston and Andy Wilkinson.
What is your weekly training routine?
On Monday, I train from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Andy Wilkinson. On Tuesday, I have a private lesson from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm and then squad training until 8:00 pm with John Whitehall. On Wednesday, I train from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm with John Whitehall. On Thursday, I train from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm with Max Enston. On Friday, I train from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm with John Whitehall. On Saturday, I have a one-hour private lesson with John Whitehall.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strengths are my attacking forehand and my powerful first serve, especially when targeting my opponents’ weaknesses. I would like to improve my wide backhand, make it more offensive, and add more consistent power to my second serve.
What is your age category and ranking?
I compete in the U14 category. My national ranking is No. 225 in Great Britain. I am currently ranked No. 5 in Wales in U14 and No. 1 among players born in 2013 and younger.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my biggest achievements include qualifying for a Grade 2 tournament and finishing third in a Grade 3 event.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in tournaments in England and Wales.
Do you have any sponsors?
No, I do not currently have any sponsors.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goals for 2026 are to qualify for the Welsh Championships final, win Grade 3 tournaments, and gain entry into more Grade 2 events.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to reach the Top 10 in the world and win multiple Grand Slam titles.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Aryna Sabalenka because she is my favorite player. I feel my game is similar to hers as I am an aggressive baseliner with powerful shots. I also admire her personality off the court.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
When I am not playing tennis, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and keeping up with my schoolwork.
