🎙️ Emma Paumen | Interview, May 2026
Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Nationality, City of residence
My name is Emma Paumen. I am 17 years old and I come from Sprimont, Belgium.
What languages do you speak?
I speak French and English, and I can also speak a little Dutch.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis daily at the age of 4, but I had already been playing at home since I was 3.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my little brother also plays a lot and is very good. He got into the sport after watching me play, and it inspired him to start his own tennis journey.
In which tennis club do you train?
I have always played at TC Tennissimo. It is the only club I have known, and I feel very connected and loyal to it.
What is your coaching team?
I have two coaches. My main coach works with me throughout the year on training and tournament preparation. My second coach has supported me since my early years in tennis, helping with training, tournaments, travel, and competitions abroad. We have built a very strong relationship over the years.
What is your weekly training routine?
My routine changes depending on school and tournaments. In general, I train around five to seven hours of tennis per week, sometimes more when preparing for competitions, plus around two hours of physical preparation. I also attend school normally and have been working as a tennis coach for younger players for about a year.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
One of my biggest strengths is my understanding of the game. I read matches well, adapt quickly, and find tactical solutions. I also have good hands and touch, which help me vary my game. The main area I need to improve is my physical side, especially for long and intense matches.
What is your age category and national ranking?
My age category is now Women 1, the highest category in Belgium. Nationally, I am currently ranked No. 124 in Belgium.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my biggest achievements include reaching the Masters final in U11, participating in the Astrid Bowl ITF J300, reaching semifinals in Women 1 one-star and two-star tournaments, and quarterfinals in two-star and three-star events. I also improved from around No. 178 to No. 124 in the Belgian rankings within one year.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have mainly played tournaments in Belgium, but I have also competed in France, Luxembourg, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Do you have any sponsors?
Yes, I receive support from TC Tennissimo, which helps finance part of my training. I am also sponsored by Ligot Sport for clothing and equipment, and I have a partnership with HEAD Tennis for tennis material.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goals for 2026 are to continue progressing in the Belgian rankings, move toward the Top 70 or Top 80, achieve strong international results, try to win an ITF tournament in singles and doubles, and begin playing professional tournaments with the goal of earning my first WTA point.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to become a professional player, compete in Grand Slam tournaments, break into the Top 100, and build a career where my passion for tennis becomes my profession.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
My favorite player is David Goffin. He has been my idol since I started tennis. I admire his intelligence, consistency, humility, and style of play. He has inspired me more than any other player and made me dream bigger.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing chess, listening to music, cooking, baking pastries, relaxing, and going to concerts whenever I can.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my tennis coach. He has always supported me, especially during difficult moments and health issues, and has played a very important role in my development as both a player and a person.
