Kamilla Cernousova · Interview, August 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Kamilla Cernousova. I was born on October 29, 2008. I am from Latvia and I live in Riga.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Russian, Latvian, and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was five years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, but my dad started playing tennis for fun at the age of 30. Then he sent me to tennis lessons, and I was good at it, so we continued.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at a local tennis club in Riga.
Who is your coach?
My coach is someone who loves tennis and enjoys every part of the game. He is also a very good hitting partner.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strengths in tennis are my forehand, serve, and movement. I can show good tennis both in defense and in offense. However, I need to work on patience and finding the right moment to attack instead of taking unnecessary risks.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I am turning 18 this October, so this is my last year in ITF juniors. My national ranking is No. 12 in the adult category.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My biggest success so far was finishing second at the Latvian Adult Championship this July.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Italy, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Austria.
What equipment brands do you currently use, and are you sponsored by any of them?
I have a partial sponsorship with Wilson Latvia. I play with a Wilson Blade V10, and my strings, bags, and shoes are also from Wilson. For clothing, I usually wear Nike or Adidas.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to play for a Division I college and help the team achieve big wins.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream has always been to go professional and play a Grand Slam. For now, my dream is to play and win 15K, 35K, and even bigger tournaments.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite tennis player is Aryna Sabalenka. I love her tennis style: the way she serves, moves, and how powerful and fast her forehand is. I also love her personality because she is very open and has no ego issues.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy playing volleyball, swimming, boxing, and learning how to play the piano. Of course, I also love spending time with my friends and family.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would love to dedicate this interview to the younger generation.
