๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Milana Kolesova | Interview, June 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
Hi! My name is Milana Kolesova. I am 16 years old and was born on June 2, 2010. I am Russian. I currently live in Moscow, Russia, but I also have a second home in Guangzhou, China.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Russian, English, Spanish, and a little Chinese. I understand almost everything in Chinese, and when I travel to China for tournaments, I quickly reconnect with the language. I especially enjoy ordering seafood and traditional Chinese dumplings in Chinese.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 5 in Guangzhou, China. At first, I simply chased the ball and hit it with my racquet, but soon I realized tennis was the coolest sport in the world.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, I am the only tennis player in my family. I have an older brother who plays chess and three younger sisters who enjoy dancing. My parents have always been my biggest supporters.
In which tennis club do you train?
I currently train at MTA โ€“ Moscow Tennis Academy in Moscow. During the summer, I return to my first tennis club in Guangzhou, China, where I started my tennis journey.
What is your coaching team?
I work with a tennis coach and a fitness coach. They are both very demanding, which helps me improve every day. As I like to joke, my main coach is myself!
What is your weekly training routine?
I train approximately 3.5 hours of tennis every day and complete fitness sessions three to four times per week. I also enjoy running and taking long walks in the park, which I consider both relaxation and training.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strengths are my speed and the variety in my game. I try to reach every ball and adapt to different situations. At the same time, I believe every part of my game can continue to improve because tennis constantly challenges you to become better.
What is your age category and national ranking?
In Russia, I compete in the U17 category, while internationally I play in the U19 category. I am currently ranked inside the Top 15 in Russia.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
So far, I have won seven ITF singles and doubles titles. Most recently, I won both the singles and doubles titles at a tournament in Kenya.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
Tennis has allowed me to visit more than 20 countries. My most recent tournament was in Kenya. I also enjoy competing in China, where the organization and atmosphere are always excellent.
Do you have any sponsors?
I currently receive sponsorship from the Russian branch of HEAD. Apart from that, my biggest sponsors are my parents. In the future, I hope to work with brands such as Nike and Rolex.
What is your goal for 2026?
My main goal is to break into the Top 8 in Russia, win more international tournaments, and continue progressing as a player. I would also love to bring my younger sisters to a tournament in Guangzhou so they can see where my tennis journey began.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to compete at the Australian Open, see koalas and kangaroos in the wild, and eventually win all 4 Grand Slams.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Li Na because she is one of China’s greatest tennis players and achieved so much through hard work. I would ask her how she handled pressure in big matches. I would also love to meet Mirra Andreeva, especially because we both enjoy playing Uno.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing board games, shopping, and going to the movies.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I dedicate this interview to everyone who loves and supports me. I would also like to dedicate it to my first coach in Guangzhou, Oren from Israel, who taught me how to hold a racquet.
