🎙️ Elizabeth Goffe | Interview, August 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Elizabeth Goffe. I am 10 years old and I was born on November 11, 2015. I am American and proud to call Washington, DC my home.
What languages do you speak?
My native language is English. I also speak some Russian, French, and Spanish.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was four years old. My parents took me to our neighborhood court just to see how I would do, and after a few tries, I was already getting the ball over the net. My backhand came naturally from the beginning, while my forehand took a little longer to develop.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my mom played competitive tennis growing up. We play together very often, and those matches are some of my favorites.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Sutton Racquet Club in Northwest Washington, DC.
What is your coaching team?
My coach is Jeff. He is very well known in the area and has a gift for making every lesson exciting and fun. I look forward to every single class with him.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My backhand is my best shot. It has been my weapon since the beginning, and I love using it. Right now, we are focused on improving my serve and developing my slices and drop shots.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the 10U and 12U categories.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
I have played various orange and green ball tournaments and done well, but one tournament stands out. This summer, I played a 12U tournament at the Madeira School and won three matches in a row against experienced boys, with scores of 4-1, 4-1, and 4-0. I was incredibly proud of myself that day.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, all my tournaments have been in the United States, but I look forward to playing international tournaments in the future.
Do you have any sponsors?
Not yet, but I am open to the idea.
What is your goal for 2026?
My next goal is to participate in international tournaments. I also want to greatly improve my serve so I can hit many aces.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to become the No. 1 tennis player in the world and inspire other kids to fall in love with tennis the way I have.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
My favorite male players are Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Sebastian Korda, Novak Djokovic, and Jannik Sinner. My favorite female players are Serena and Venus Williams, Coco Gauff, Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, and Jessica Pegula.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I play golf, sing, draw, do crafts, read, play the piano, and do cheerleading at my school.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I want to dedicate this interview to my family: everyone who cheers me on, drives me to practice, watches my matches, and believes in me even on the days when I do not quite believe in myself. My tennis journey would not be possible without their love and support.
