What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Sophie Duque Villanueva. I was born on May 13, 2013, in Valladolid, Spain, and my whole family is from Colombia. Right now, I live in Mallorca with my parents and grandma.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish, English, Catalan, and a bit of German.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis as an extracurricular activity when I was four years old, but I started playing seriously when I was 11.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
My dad played tennis, but he had an arm injury and stopped. When he was younger, he also won many national titles in table tennis.
In which tennis academy do you train?
I train at Jofre Porta Academy.
Who are your coaches?
We have many coaches at my club, including Jofre Porta himself.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I would say my attitude and my willingness to keep fighting are my strongest points. What I need to improve is my tennis level overall.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I am a first-year U14 player. My national ranking is No. 1104 overall and No. 164 in Under 14.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
This year, my team and I won the Spanish U14 Team Championship.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have mostly played tournaments in Spain, but I have also played once in Portugal and in Colombia.
What equipment brands do you currently use, and are you sponsored by any of them?
I mainly use Head clothing, and I also have many Jofre Porta T-shirts, some Tecnifibre and Joma clothing, and a few Nike outfits. For shoes, I use Asics. My racket is a Babolat Aero Carlos Alcaraz model, and my tennis bag and strings are also Babolat. I also have a sponsorship with the Colombian restaurant chain Salento NYC in New York.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to win a Tennis Europe tournament in U14.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to become the best version of myself.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite tennis player is Aryna Sabalenka because I love the way she plays and fights for every single ball on court, never giving up.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I am actually a really good swimmer, so I love going to the beach. I also enjoy being with my friends and family, hanging out, reading, sometimes painting, and I especially love summer.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would 100% dedicate this interview to my parents and coaches because they always want the best for me, and I really love and respect them.
