My name is Sanggamittra Balamurugan. I am 15 years old, born on March 14, 2011. I am from Malaysia and live in the peaceful state of Kedah.
What languages do you speak?
I speak three languages fluently: English, Tamil, and Bahasa Melayu.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my younger sister, Mathivathena Balamurugan, is also a tennis player.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Duta International Tennis Academy.
What is your coaching team?
My coaching team consists of five coaches, including my head coach Mr. V Selvam, a former Malaysian professional tennis player.
What is your weekly training routine?
Every weekend, I travel from Kedah to Kuala Lumpur, crossing three states for a five-hour journey to train at the academy. On weekdays, I train at my hometown courts with my dad and sister.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strengths are my speed and agility. I would really like to improve my serve technique.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the U16 category and I am currently ranked No. 25 in Malaysia.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest achievements include reaching the semifinals of the Sabah ATF at age 13 and also reaching the semifinals during the national Top 8 (Masters) competition.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in Thailand multiple times.
Do you have any sponsors?
No, I do not currently have any sponsors.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to break into the Top 4 rankings in Malaysia.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to represent Malaysia and become part of the national tennis team.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Roger Federer because he is my favorite player and I truly admire his style of play.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy reading fiction books and listening to music.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my father, who inspired my love for tennis from an early age and has always supported my journey.
