๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Maria Victoria Nitu | Interview, May 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of birth, Nationality, City of residence
My name is Maria Victoria Nitu. I am 12 years old, born on March 12, 2014. I am Italian and I live in Rome, Italy.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Italian, English, and Romanian.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 3 and a half years old. Since then, tennis has become a very important part of my life.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my sister Alessandra Nitu also plays tennis. She is 16 years old and ranked 2.8. She is a big inspiration for me, and I love sharing this passion with her.
In which tennis club do you train?
Until December 2025, I trained at Salaria Sport Village in the Tato Peda school with coaches Marco Mencaglia and Enrico De Capua. Today, I am part of Alberto Castellaniโ€™s Colle degli Dei Academy, where I train under coach Corrado Favalle.
What is your coaching team?
I am part of the Colle degli Dei competitive team, coordinated by Alberto Castellani and Corrado Favalle together with the academy coaches.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train almost every day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays I do fitness training from 3:00 PM and then tennis from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Wednesdays are usually rest days or tournament days. On Saturdays I train from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and on weekends I often compete in tournaments.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I believe my biggest strengths are my forehand and serve because they give me confidence. However, I know I still need to improve in every area because in tennis you never stop learning.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the U14 category and my Italian national ranking is 3.5.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
One of my best achievements was competing in higher age categories from a young age and qualifying for a Masters event in Turin in an older category. I was also Regional U10 Champion, which is a result I am very proud of.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Italy, Romania, and Spain.
Do you have any sponsors?
Yes. Babolat is my technical sponsor. Ultrapromedia is my technology sponsor. Sporfie Italia supports live streaming for tournaments and clubs, and Vesto365 supports customized apparel for players, coaches, and clubs.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to become mentally stronger, similar to Jannik Sinner, who always stays focused. I want to improve my concentration, become more consistent, and continue growing match after match.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to play a Wimbledon final with my sister Alessandra, both in singles and doubles. That would be something truly special.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Roger Federer. Even though he is now retired, he has always been special to me because the way he played looked so natural and beautiful.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my friends, having fun, and doing simple things like other girls my age.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my mom and dad because they allow both me and my sister Alessandra to follow and pursue our tennis dreams.
