๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Alexina Helenius | Interview, July 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Alexina Helenius. I am 16 years old and I was born on January 28, 2010. I am Swedish and I live in Kungsbacka, just outside Gothenburg, Sweden. Tennis has been a big part of my life for many years, and this autumn I will start at Katrinelund Gymnasium in Gothenburg, an elite sports school with a tennis program.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Swedish and English, and a little bit of Spanish. Tennis has given me the opportunity to meet people from many different countries, so languages are always fun to learn.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was six years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, there are no other tennis players in my family, but they have always been very supportive and have helped me a lot throughout my tennis journey.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Vallda Tennis Club. It is a smaller club, and I have had the same coaches since I started playing tennis. They know me very well and have supported me throughout my journey. I also sometimes train at other clubs to meet different players, experience different training environments, and challenge myself in new ways.
What is your coaching team?
My coaching team consists of Linus Ask and Stoffe Granqvist from Vallda Tennis Club. I also work with mental coaches Gregor Schill and Arina Rogestedt, who help me develop my mindset and handle both challenges and opportunities in tennis. My physical training is supported by Danny Sweet from IFK Kliniken, who helps me become stronger, faster, and stay healthy.
What is your weekly training routine?
I normally train around 15 hours of tennis per week and do four to five physical training sessions. I usually have one rest day each week, which is important for recovery. During tournament periods, my training schedule is adapted depending on my competition calendar, so there is a good balance between training, matches, and recovery.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strengths are that I play aggressively and hit the ball hard. My serve and forehand are probably my strongest shots, but I also have a solid backhand. I like to vary my game by using slice and trying to take advantage of my strong volleys whenever I can. I would like to become faster on the court, improve my tactical understanding of the game, and continue to develop my mental strength.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the U16 age category and I am currently ranked in the Top 10 in Sweden in my age group.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest successes so far are winning several Swedish Championship Race tournaments and winning the regional championships on home court. I am also proud that I have managed to stay among the top players in Sweden in my age group over time.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have trained and competed in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Slovenia, Tรผrkiye, Spain, the United States, Thailand, and Cape Verde. Travelling for tennis has given me many great experiences, and I hope to visit and play tennis in even more countries in the future.
Do you have any sponsors?
I currently have a support agreement with HEAD Sweden, which I am very grateful for. Their support means a lot to me and helps me continue developing as a player.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to continue improving my tennis, gain more experience in both national and international tournaments, and take another step in my development by starting at Katrinelund Gymnasium.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest tennis dream is to earn the opportunity to play college tennis in the United States and then see how far I can go in professional tennis. Ultimately, I would love to work my way towards the top of the world rankings and compete at the highest level possible.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
Aryna Sabalenka is the player I would most like to meet. I admire her aggressive playing style, powerful shots, and the intensity she brings to every match. I also think it is inspiring how she has handled challenges throughout her career and continued to work hard to reach the top of the game.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love eating good food, shopping, and having fun with the people close to me. I also really enjoy spending time with my two brothers, who always make me laugh.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my family, coaches, and everyone who has supported me throughout my tennis journey. Their love, encouragement, and belief in me mean everything and motivate me to keep chasing my dreams every day.
