My name is Valeriia Ponezhda. I am 11 years old and I was born in 2014. I am Ukrainian and I live in Brussels, Belgium.
What languages do you speak?
I speak French and Ukrainian, and I am currently learning English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 8.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, both my mother and my father play tennis.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at RTC Lambermont Brussels.
What is your coaching team?
I train with the coaches from my club.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train around four hours of tennis and two hours of physical preparation each week.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strength is that I play well and enjoy building points with my cross-court forehand.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the U13 category and my current Belgian ranking is 13.4 (C30.4).
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest success so far has been winning a JF15 Grade 2 tournament.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Belgium. My dream is to compete on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour.
Do you have any sponsors?
No, not at the moment. I am supported by my club and my parents.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to reach the Belgian ranking of B+4/6 and start competing in the Ladies category.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to reach the Top 10 in the world.
Which players would you most like to meet and why?
I would like to meet Jannik Sinner, Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Aryna Sabalenka, and Novak Djokovic because they are a great source of inspiration for me.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, playing the piano, and skiing in the mountains.
