My name is Sophie Simonova. I am 12 years old, born on April 24, 2014. I am British and currently live in Greater London, United Kingdom.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English and Russian fluently, and I am currently studying Spanish and Mandarin at school.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 6.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my older brother Anthony also plays tennis, and we often train together.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Dukes Meadows, an LTA RPDC centre based in West London.
What is your coaching team?
My coaching team includes my main coach Otto Buchholdt, RPDC coach Christian Colvin, and strength & conditioning coach Josh Dragone.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train approximately three hours per day, combining high-performance tennis training with strength and conditioning work. Most weekdays include around two hours of tennis and one hour of S&C as part of my RPDC programme, alongside private coaching sessions with my main coach Otto Buchholdt. On weekends, I compete in tournaments or continue match practice sessions with my older brother Anthony.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I believe one of my greatest strengths is my work ethic and determination on court. At the same time, I am constantly focused on improving my movement and court positioning so I can become more aggressive and effective during matches.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the 12-and-under category and I am currently ranked inside the Top 20 in the United Kingdom.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my biggest achievements so far include winning the UK Nationals, representing Team England at the Four Nations international tournament, and becoming a four-time County Cup winner with the Middlesex team.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have mainly competed in tournaments across the United Kingdom, including national-level and Tennis Europe events. I also plan to compete in more international Tennis Europe tournaments in the future.
Do you have any sponsors?
I currently receive support from HEAD and Middlesex Tennis.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to finish inside the Top 10 in the UK for my age group and continue improving my tennis.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to compete in Grand Slam tournaments and experience playing on the biggest stages in professional tennis.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Aryna Sabalenka because I admire her aggressive playing style, competitive mentality, and powerful approach to the game.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy drawing, spending time with my friends and family, and playing with my cat Tiggy, whom I love very much.
