🎙️ Loren-Julie Smit | Interview, May 2026
Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of birth, Nationality, City of residence
Hi! My name is Loren-Julie Smit. I’m 12 years old and I was born on October 18, 2013. I’m Dutch, originally from Amsterdam and Noordwijk in the Netherlands, and I currently live in Spain.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Dutch, English, and some basic Spanish.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old. I began casually, training once a week, and became more serious about the sport around the age of 8.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes! My mom and dad both used to play tennis, my older sister played college tennis in the United States, and my younger brother also plays. Tennis is a big part of my family.
In which tennis club do you train?
I currently train at Manu Sala Academy in Spain.
What is your coaching team?
In the Netherlands, my coaches are Marcel Kokshoorn and Stefan Bergman, with fitness trainer Arthur Glazer. In Spain, I train with Ivan, Juajo, Santi, and a dedicated fitness coach.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train five days a week, with fitness training after tennis on four of those days. On weekends, I compete in tournaments.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strength is my mentality. I focus well, never give up, and truly enjoy competing. I am currently working hard on improving my second serve and many technical details of my game.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the U14 category. My Dutch national ranking dropped because I haven’t played ranking tournaments there for several months, but I plan to return this summer and improve it again.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
I have already won ranking tournament finals, but I believe my biggest successes are still ahead. Right now, I focus on improving my game and celebrating small victories in every match.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in the Netherlands, France, and Spain.
Do you have any sponsors?
Not yet! My mom is currently my biggest sponsor.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to win a tournament in Spain and continue developing into a consistent aggressive player.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to compete internationally, continue developing my perfect game, and eventually compete at the highest level.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Aryna Sabalenka because she has inspired me since I first started tennis.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I love spending time with my friends, whether it’s shopping, going to the cinema, or simply hanging out together.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I dedicate this interview to Diana, my first coach, who gave me my love for tennis and helped build my strong mental foundation from the very beginning.
