๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Joanivia Bezuidenhout | Interview, July 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Joanivia Bezuidenhout. I am 17 years old and I was born on April 30, 2009. I am Namibian and I live in Namibia.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English, Afrikaans, and Oshiwambo.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was nine years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
I was the first person in my family to become a tennis player. Now my two younger sisters, my brother, and my father also play tennis.
In which tennis club do you train?
I am currently not affiliated with any tennis club because of the high fees.
What is your coaching team?
My dad is my head coach, and my tactical coach is former Division 1 player and coach Kendall Swartz.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train every day. In the mornings, I mostly focus on flexibility, agility, footwork, and serves. In the afternoon, I focus on my groundstrokes, tactics, match play, and hitting sessions. On Sundays, I play recreational tennis to relax and remind myself that tennis is supposed to be fun and not just grinding all the time.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I think my greatest strengths as a player are my volleys, slices, forehand, footwork, and speed on the court. I need to improve the consistency of my backhand and get a higher first serve percentage in my matches.
What is your age category and ranking?
I play in the U18 category. I am ranked No. 1 in Namibia and I am in the Top 1300 in the ITF rankings.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest successes so far include being selected for the Namibian national team for every national event since the age of 12, winning the U19 Youth Games when I was 12, competing in the Billie Jean King Cup every year from the age of 14, winning multiple Masters tournaments in a row in Namibia, and recently winning my first ITF doubles title.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and Egypt.
Do you have any sponsors?
I do not have any sponsors. As a tennis player in Namibia who does not come from a wealthy background, it is not easy to find sponsors. All my costs are covered by my parents, with small help from others here and there.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to get my ITF and UTR ranking higher so I can start applying for college tennis. My main goal every year is to become a better tennis player.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to win a Grand Slam and become a top tennis player who inspires others, showing them that no matter the circumstances, they can achieve their dreams by believing in themselves and cutting out negative outside voices.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Roger Federer because he was the first tennis player I watched when I started playing tennis. I love his game and his attitude on and off the court. I also love that he has a foundation for children, and it is one of my goals in life to start my own foundation to help kids. Meeting him would be a dream come true.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I love listening to music, going on adventures like hiking and walks, discovering new places, and going on group trips with family and friends.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my siblings, to remind them that I appreciate their support.
