What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Hugo Qiu. I was born on March 12, 2015. I am American and I live in Syosset, New York.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English and Chinese.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was seven years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, I am the only competitive tennis player in my family.
In which tennis academy do you train?
I train at Sportime/JMTA in Syosset, New York.
Who is your coach?
My coach is Michael Kossoff.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I think one of my greatest strengths is my fighting spirit and competitiveness. I never want to give up, even when I am behind in a match. I am working on improving my consistency, movement, and mental game, and I want to become stronger and more confident in important points.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently play in the 12-and-under category. My current national ranking is No. 152, and my UTR is 6.27.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my biggest achievements so far are winning an L4 singles championship and reaching the final of an L3 doubles tournament. I also received the USTA Eastern 2026 12U Sportsmanship Award. I am proud of competing in higher-level USTA tournaments and continuing to improve my national ranking.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have mainly played tournaments in the United States so far.
What equipment brands do you currently use, and are you sponsored by any of them?
I currently use Wilson racquets and Solinco Hyper-G Soft strings. I also use Asics tennis shoes and Nike clothing. I am sponsored by Solinco.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to win a trophy at an L1 tournament.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to become a professional tennis player and compete at the biggest tournaments in the world. I would love to play at the US Open and other Grand Slam tournaments one day.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Carlos Alcaraz. I like his energy, speed, fighting spirit, and aggressive style of play. He always competes hard and seems to enjoy being on the court. I also like how he never gives up and keeps fighting for every point.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing games, and having fun.
