What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Erich Andrei Pop. I am from Târgu Jiu, Romania, and I am 17 years old. I was born on August 3, 2009.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Romanian and English fluently, and I also have a good knowledge of Spanish.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of four, and I fell in love with the sport from the very beginning.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
At the moment, I am the only tennis player in my family, and I am also an only child.
In which tennis academy do you train?
I currently train at Florin Mergea Tennis Academy, right in the city where I live.
Who are your coaches?
My main coaches are Florin Mergea and Stefan Pitian. I also work with Stefan Roates on the tennis side, while my physical preparation coach is Adrian Stolojan.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strength as a player is my serve, which has become one of the main weapons in my game. The aspect I would most like to improve is my mental game.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I am 17 years old and I compete in the U18 category. My current national ranking in this category is No. 16, although this is not my highest ranking at this level.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My best national results include numerous podium finishes at the National Championships, both in doubles and mixed doubles. At international level, my best results include winning a J30 doubles tournament and reaching the final of a J60 doubles tournament, as well as numerous quarterfinal appearances at both J30 and J60 events.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in tournaments in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.
What equipment brands do you currently use?
At the moment, I use Wilson for both my rackets and tennis bags. For clothing, I mainly wear Lotto and ASICS, while I use ASICS shoes on clay courts and Nike shoes on hard courts. For strings, I currently use MSV.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to break into the ITF Top 500 by the end of this year, and by the end of next year, I aim to reach the ITF Top 100.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream in tennis is to win a Grand Slam tournament, especially Wimbledon.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Novak Djokovic because of his very strong personality and exceptional mental strength, which is something I also aspire to develop.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my friends and watching Formula 1, which is one of my biggest passions.
