🎙️ Elisha Zimmerman | Interview, July 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Elisha Zimmerman. I am 9 years old and I was born on August 29, 2016. I was born in Curaçao, but I now live in Tilburg, North Brabant, in the Netherlands. I represent the Netherlands in competition.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Papiamento, the language spoken in Curaçao, which is a mix of Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Dutch. I also speak Dutch and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started my first private tennis lesson when I was three and a half years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes. I grew up on the tennis court because my oldest sister Amara played and trained every day, so we spent many hours there every week. My brother Jonah also played tennis.
In which tennis club do you train?
I now train at ATA, Ambition Tennis Academie, in Goirle. I started my first lessons when I was little at Jori Meulenbeld Tennis Academie with my first coach, and after that I trained with Louis van Rosberg at Nick van Rosberg Academie in Curaçao.
What is your coaching team?
My coaches now are Bonno van der Hout, Luc van de Gruiter, Mark Luyk, and Janou Savelkoul.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train five times a week. Four of these sessions consist of a three-hour block: one hour of physical training and two hours of tennis training. In addition, I have a one-hour private lesson each week. So, that makes a total of 13 hours per week.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strength is my forehand and being able to keep my mental strength, even though it is tough sometimes.
What is your age category and ranking?
I currently play in the Under 12 category. My rating is 7.6515 and my ranking is No. 143. I just started playing U12, and these are the first ranking points I have received so far.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest success so far is reaching the final of the PJK, the Youth Championships of North Brabant, where I finished second. Another big achievement is being selected by the KNLTB for the national selection, ages 11 to 14, for the upcoming season.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have played tournaments in Curaçao and the Netherlands.
Do you have any sponsors?
I do not have any sponsors yet. Maybe after this interview, one sponsor will reach out to me. That would be awesome.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to keep training, keep growing in my tennis, and play some international tournaments.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to become a professional tennis player and one day win the US Open.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
My favorite player is Bianca Andreescu. She is so humble, and I have met her a couple of times. She also arranged for me to meet her and play tennis with her, which was a dream come true. I also like Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Coco Gauff. Venus and Serena Williams will always be on my top list.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I like doing gymnastics, rollerskating, crafting, and spending time with my family.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my grandmother Mamoeshke, who passed away a couple of years ago and always believed in me. I also dedicate it to my mom and dad, my sister Amara who motivates me, my grandpa and grandma Dinaida and Temp, and the rest of my family who always support and encourage me.
