Yaroslav Chepikov · Interview, August 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Yaroslav Chepikov. I am 16 years old and I was born on June 29, 2010. I am Russian and I live in Kemerovo, Russia.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Russian and English. I study English to communicate with foreign opponents and coaches.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 13. That is quite late compared to others, but I am catching up quickly.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, there are no other tennis players in my family. I am the first one.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at the Tennis Center “Kuzbass” in Kemerovo.
What is your coaching team?
My main coach is Elena. She taught me everything and continues to guide me toward my goals.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strength is my height: 187 cm. It helps me reach most balls and hit powerful shots from the bounce. I need to improve my net game and smash, and we work a lot on these in training.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I play in the Under-17 category. My current national ranking is No. 800. In Kemerovo, we do not have many opportunities to play tournaments because most of them take place far from our city.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My biggest success so far is beating the No. 200 ranked player in Russia and earning the 2nd adult sports category. I have also beaten players who have been playing tennis for six or seven years, even though I have only been playing for a short time. This proves that I have potential.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have only played tournaments in Russia. In the future, I really want to travel abroad for competitions.
Do you have any sponsors?
Not yet. One of my big dreams is to find a sponsor who believes in me and invests in my development. I am on court every day and I live for tennis, but right now I only train in groups. With sponsor support, I could train more professionally and show completely different results.
What is your goal for 2026?
My immediate goal is to win an RTT tournament and achieve the Candidate Master of Sports title. My bigger goal is to become World No. 1.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to find a sponsor who sees my potential and helps me unlock it. With the right support and an individual training approach, I believe I can reach a new level and show what I am truly capable of.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
My favorite player is Carlos Alcaraz. He is very powerful, fast, and knows how to do spectacular things on court. He is exciting to watch, and I learn a lot from his game.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy singing, dancing, and spending time with friends and family. It helps me relax and recharge with positive energy.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my parents. They supported my idea of going into professional tennis, even though I started this sport quite late. They believe in me, drive me to training and tournaments, worry about every match, and do everything so I can have a future in tennis. I am very grateful to them.
