Vito Rondani · Interview, October 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Vito Rondani, and I was born on June 4, 2013. I’m 13 years old and was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. My family has Brazilian, Italian, and Peruvian roots, and I also have some Chinese heritage from my great-grandparents.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes! My family loves tennis, and we play together almost every weekend. My maternal grandfather, Luciano, has played tennis in Brazil his whole adult life. He now plays padel and still competes, so he’s a great role model for me.My brother is a competitive soccer player, but he also plays USTA tournaments and played on his high school tennis team last year. We sometimes play doubles together. My parents also play recreationally, so tennis is a big part of our family. My mom and I went to the US Open together for her birthday, and we’ve also visited Wimbledon and Roland-Garros. We go to Indian Wells every year, too! My brother has been a ball boy there for the past three years, and in 2027, I’ll get to be a ball boy there for the first time. I’m really excited about that!
In which tennis club do you train?
I currently train at Jack Kramer Tennis Club in Palos Verdes, California.
Who are your coaches?
My two private coaches are Erich Taach and Moe Moe Myinttun. I also train with Coach Joseph Lizardo at Jack Kramer Tennis Club.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I think I’m a calm and mindful player, and I like to play aggressively and come to the net for volleys. I want to keep improving my serve and my mental strength, especially when I start losing points. I’m learning that staying positive and focused is just as important as hitting good shots.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently compete in the 14-and-under category. My national ranking is around 4,100, and I’m ranked around 385 in Southern California in my age category. When I played 12-and-under, I was ranked 1,473 nationally and 109 in Southern California.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Playing at Little Mo was a great experience and helped me build confidence for future tournaments. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from competing.Outside of my own tennis, one of the things I’m most proud of is starting Open Court Foundation. Connecting with an organization called LoveSetMatch has helped us learn more about how to build our foundation and take the next steps toward our mission. It’s exciting to see an idea turn into something that could help other kids.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I currently compete in the United States, but I’ve also had opportunities to train and play tennis internationally. This summer, I played in London, including ITF competition. Last summer, I participated in a program called CETO in Lisbon, Portugal, and the summer before that, I trained at BTT in Barcelona, Spain. These experiences have helped me learn about tennis in different places and meet people from different backgrounds.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I use HEAD for my racquets and tennis bag, On for my shoes, and Nike for most of my tennis clothes. I’m not currently sponsored by any of these brands.
What is your next goal?
My personal goal is to keep improving as a player and hopefully play tennis at Stanford University one day, because it’s my dream college. For Open Court Foundation, my next goal is to reach more kids beyond our local community and eventually help children internationally, too. I want us to make tennis more accessible to kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play. I think every kid should have a chance to discover tennis, improve their skills, and experience the confidence and friendships that come with the sport, no matter their background or financial situation.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to play in a Grand Slam tournament, especially Roland-Garros. It would be amazing to compete on those courts one day and hopefully even get to play with a player I look up to, like Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz!
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Novak Djokovic. He’s an amazing player, but I also admire his discipline, resilience, and attitude. He has shown that even when things get difficult, you have to keep believing in yourself and working hard. I also admire his kindness and the way he gives back. He motivates me to keep improving, both on and off the court.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I love playing the piano! I study at a piano conservatory in downtown Los Angeles, where I play classical music. I enjoy music because it challenges me in a different way from tennis and gives me another way to express myself. I also love spending time with my family and working on Open Court Foundation. It makes me happy to think that something I love, like tennis, can help bring people together and give other kids opportunities to play.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I want to dedicate this interview to my parents because they have helped and supported me so much in creating Open Court Foundation. They have always believed in me and encouraged me to follow my ideas, even when I’m not sure how to make them happen. They inspire me to work hard, keep going when things are difficult, and think about how I can help other people. I’m really grateful to have them supporting me in tennis and in this project.
