Shazleen Aziz · Interview, October 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, age, date of birth, nationality, city of residence
My name is Shazleen Aziz. I was born in 2014. I am Australian and I live in Sydney, Australia.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I first started holding a racket when I was four. I loved going to our local tennis wall, and my dad would come and play with me. I started competing in tournaments when I was nine.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, tennis runs in my family. My dad played competitively at Oxford, and my aunt, Saba Aziz, was Pakistan’s No. 1 women’s player and represented Pakistan internationally.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Heffron Tennis Centre and Sydney Olympic Park.
What is your coaching team?
I have a great team of tennis and fitness coaches from Heffron Tennis Centre and Sydney Olympic Park who help me develop my game.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train most days of the week, combining tennis, fitness, and match play. This includes training with the NDP squad at Sydney Olympic Park. On weekends, I usually compete in tournaments or play practice matches. If I am not competing, I make sure I have some time to recover too.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I love my cross-court forehand and my backhand slice. They are two shots I really enjoy using in matches. I am always working on improving my overall game.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I mainly compete in 12U and I am Top 10 nationally in Australia. I also enjoy challenging myself by playing up, and I have won tournaments in both 14U and 16U.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my proudest achievements so far are earning my Wilson sponsorship, winning the Darwin J500, and representing Team NSW at the Bruce Cup Australian Championships, where our team won silver.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have mainly competed in Australia. Right now, I am focused on building my game, and I hope to start travelling more next year as I work towards competing internationally and eventually playing ITF events.
Do you have any sponsors?
Yes. I am proud to be sponsored by Wilson and also supported by Heffron Tennis and Last Rep Fitness.
What is your goal for 2026?
My main goal for 2026 is to excel at the national championships this year and keep improving my game so I am ready for next year.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to become World No. 1 and one day be one of the greatest players in tennis history. I want to win as many Grand Slams as I can, but the Australian Open and Roland Garros would be especially special to me.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Rafael Nadal. I really admire his fighting spirit on court and how humble he is off court. He has always been a player I look up to.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I like watching TV, spending time with my family, and going out on my scooter.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to everyone who supports me and my tennis journey. I am really grateful to have them behind me.
