Rowan Cosh · Interview, October 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Rowan Cosh. I’m 12, born in 2014, American, and from West Orange, New Jersey.
What languages do you speak?
English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started at about six, during COVID. I played in public parks with Justin Cadeau, who played Division I tennis at Howard. Then I started going to West Orange Tennis Club.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Some of my cousins play. My mom started because I liked it so much.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at West Orange Tennis Club. It’s like my second home. I can always find someone to play with. I also enjoy stopping by Orange Lawn. It’s close by and has so much tennis history, which is really cool.
Who are your coaches?
Les Smith, Yudy Shivkumar, and Rafa Zamarripa. (Everyone at WOTC works together to help me get better.)
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I love playing. When I lose, it makes me want to get better and try again. There’s always something to work on.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I play Boys’ 12U. I try not to check my ranking too much. I care more about getting into strong tournaments and playing kids who are better than me. The challenge is fun.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Winning Little Mo this summer and coming in second at the Champions Bowl in Croatia. Getting to play kids from different countries was really cool.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
The United States and Croatia. Maybe England at some point soon, if I am lucky.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I use a HEAD racket, Solinco strings, and K-Swiss shoes. I’m officially sponsored by Solinco, and K-Swiss supports me, too. I’m really grateful to both!
What is your next goal?
My next tournament is the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. I want to make a deep run!
What is your tennis dream?
Too many to count! Right now, I’m focusing on today.
Who is your favorite player and why?
Roger Federer and Ben Shelton. Ben is intense and has an amazing serve. One day mine will be even better! Roger seems good at everything. I especially love watching his matches against Rafa Nadal.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I like chess and board games, especially Monopoly. I also play basketball and soccer with my neighborhood friends.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
Les, Yudy, Rafa, my mom, and my little sister. Thanks for always supporting me!
