Lina Soussi · Interview, September 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Lina Soussi. I was born on February 27, 2007. I am originally from Monastir, Tunisia, but I currently reside in Wichita, Kansas (USA), for my studies and tennis at Wichita State University.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Arabic, French, and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 6 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
I am the only one who plays tennis, but I come from a very athletic family! My mom is a swimming coach—which is why I love swimming so much—and my sister competes in fencing.
In which tennis club do you train?
My home club, where I grew up training, is the Tennis Club de Monastir.
Who are your coaches?
Back home, my coach is Lokmen. My current coach is Jacob, as I am currently a student-athlete playing college tennis at Wichita State University.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strength on the court is definitely my forehand.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I used to be ranked No. 1 nationally in Tunisia. However, because I am now focused on college tennis and the pro circuit, I don’t compete in national junior tournaments anymore.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
One of my proudest achievements so far was being the runner-up at the ITF W15 Monastir tournament, right in my hometown.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in France, Germany, Spain, Namibia, Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt, as well as across the United States.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I play with the Wilson Blade 98 racket and wear Nike clothing and shoes. I don’t currently have an official sponsor, but I am always open to future partnerships!
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to win multiple W15 and W25 ITF pro tournaments and play full-time on the professional circuit.
What is your tennis dream?
My ultimate tennis dream is to play at the Australian Open or US Open.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Aryna Sabalenka. I absolutely love her aggressive style of play and the intense energy she brings to the court.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
When I’m not on the court or studying, I love going swimming and trying out new restaurants.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my parents. They are the ones who drive me to practice every day, support me through every win and loss, and sacrifice so much so I can pursue my passion.
