Kayleigh Stayt · Interview, November 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Kayleigh Stayt. I was born on February 15, 2009, and I am South African, currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa.
What languages do you speak?
I mainly speak English, but I also speak a bit of Afrikaans.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was around eight years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes! Tennis has always been a big part of my family. My Oupa and Ouma both love the game, and my mom and her brothers grew up playing tennis throughout their childhood. It’s awesome to have grown up surrounded by people who share my love for the sport.
In which tennis club do you train?
I currently train at Northern Suburbs Tennis Club in Johannesburg.
Who are your coaches?
My coaches are Coach Russell and Coach Louis.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I would say my greatest strengths are my volleys. I love coming to the net and playing an aggressive style of tennis. One area I’m working on is my serve, as I know how important it is to have a strong and consistent serve at a competitive level.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently compete in the Under-18 category and am ranked No. 20 nationally.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my proudest achievements have been being selected for the South African team and having the opportunity to represent my country. Reaching the semifinals of an ITF tournament and achieving a UTR of 8 have also been significant milestones for me.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I’ve had the opportunity to compete in England as well as in Botswana. I’m also looking forward to competing in Zimbabwe this November.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I’m sponsored by Babolat and currently play with a Babolat Pure Strike racket, use Solinco Tour Bite strings, and wear ASICS tennis shoes. When it comes to clothing, I wear a variety of different brands.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to win an ITF tournament.
What is your tennis dream?
My ultimate tennis dream is to play at the US Open. I’ve always loved New York, and there’s something incredibly special about the atmosphere and energy of that tournament.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favourite player is definitely Rafael Nadal. His tenacity, determination, and work ethic are remarkable. His movement around the court is incredible, but what inspires me most is his fighting spirit and the passion he brings to every match. You can see how much he genuinely loves the game, and that’s something I really admire.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I love baking, reading, going to the gym, and spending time with my friends and family. Tennis makes life quite busy, so I really value those moments when I can slow down and enjoy other things. I’m incredibly lucky to have people around me who remind me to slow down and enjoy my youth.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?

Firstly, my parents, who have sacrificed so much to give me the opportunities I’ve had. I’m incredibly fortunate to have their constant love, encouragement, and support, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

I’d also like to thank my friends, who remind me to enjoy my teenage years and not take life too seriously. They help me maintain a balance between tennis and life.

And lastly, my coaches, Coach Russell and Coach Louis. They’re on court so early in the morning helping me work through my weaknesses, pushing me to improve, and somehow still making the hard work enjoyable.

I’m truly grateful for everyone who has been part of my journey so far.
