Emma Mendoza Alvarez · Interview, August 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Emma Mendoza Alvarez. I am 12 years old and I was born on July 10, 2014, in Mexico City. I have dual nationality, Mexican and Spanish, and I currently live in Barcelona, Spain.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish and English, and I am currently learning Catalan and French.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was four years old in Mexico.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, I have a nine-year-old sister, María José, who also plays tennis, and my father started playing when he was young and still plays today.
In which tennis academy do you train?
I train at Full Experience Academy, which is based at Club de Tennis Llafranc, although we train in Hospitalet.
Who are your coaches?
My coaches are Agustín Madrid, Nadia Persa, and Juanma Antón.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train from Monday to Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., some Fridays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and on weekends I usually play tournaments or train with my father and my sister.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My strengths are discipline, my inside-out forehand, and my down-the-line backhand. I still need to keep improving my serve to better take advantage of my height, as well as my volley.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently play in the U12 category, Alevín in Spain. I am ranked No. 77 nationally in Spain.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
One of my biggest achievements was finishing No. 4 in the Mexican national ranking in the U10 category before moving to Spain. I have won tournaments in both Mexico and Spain, and I have played Tennis Europe, Rafa Nadal Tour, and other national circuits in Spain.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in tournaments in Mexico and Spain.
Do you have any sponsors?
I currently do not have sponsors, but I am looking for one who would like to work with me.
What is your next goal?
My goal this year is to finish among the Top 5 players in Catalonia and the Top 20 in Spain in my category.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to become a professional tennis player and win a Grand Slam.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Novak Djokovic because he is one of the most disciplined players, and despite being one of the older players on tour, he continues to perform at a very high level.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I really enjoy going to the beach, paddle surfing, and playing other sports like basketball and athletics.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my family and my coaches for always supporting me in this dream.
