What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Aum Chandarana. I was born on December 1, 2010. I am Kenyan and I am from Nairobi, Kenya.
What languages ​​do you speak?
I speak English and some French.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was around five years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, I am the only competitive tennis player in my family.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at 254 Racket Club in Nairobi, Kenya.
Who are your coaches?
My coaches are Coach Rosemary Owino and Tony Kipruto.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strengths are my forehand and my competitiveness. I like to play aggressively and take control of points. I am also very determined and do not like giving up, even when I am behind. I am working on becoming more consistent mentally, especially under pressure, and improving my movement and decision-making.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently compete in the U16 category and I am ranked No. 2 in Kenya in U16. My current ITF Junior ranking is No. 2047, with a career-high of No. 1844.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my biggest achievements include representing Kenya at the East African Zonals, where I played in the final against Uganda and won in three sets. I have also been captain of the Kenyan U14 and U16 teams, with the team winning across the categories. I earned my first ITF ranking after reaching the third round of a J60 in Ghana and represented Kenya at the African Junior Championships. More recently, I reached the J30 doubles final in Burundi, which was a great international experience. I have also had the opportunity to train and compete in France.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Burundi, Madagascar, the USA, and France.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I currently use Yonex equipment, including my racket, bag, and strings. I am currently looking for opportunities to work with brands and develop a long-term sponsorship partnership.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to keep improving my ITF ranking, perform well in international junior tournaments, and continue representing Kenya at the highest level.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to play professional tennis at the highest level, represent Kenya internationally, and compete at the biggest tournaments in the world. One of my biggest dreams is to play in the Junior Grand Slams and eventually compete at Grand Slam level.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Roger Federer. I really admire his style of tennis, his variety, his technique, and the way he played with so much control and elegance. He showed that tennis is not only about power, but also about creativity, intelligence, and timing.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy listening to music, spending time with my friends and family, traveling, and following other sports. I also enjoy learning new things and working on my fitness.
