🎙️ Anna Chioveanu | Interview, June 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Anna Chioveanu and I am 9 years old. I was born on November 18, 2016, in Bucharest, Romania, which is also my city of residence.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Romanian and a little bit of Spanish.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of four, when my parents wanted me to practice a sport for healthy development.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
There are no other tennis players in my family. My parents love watching tennis, but they have never played or trained professionally.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Tennis Total MG&D in Bucharest.
What is your coaching team?
My coaching team includes two tennis coaches, Cosmin Ghețu and Mihai Ghețu, one physical trainer, Dan Cîrstea, and the physiotherapists from a clinic who help me recover after tough matches.
What is your weekly training routine?
I have tennis training from Monday to Friday for one and a half hours a day, and I have physical training twice a week for one hour each session.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I am very fast on the court, I run very well, and I get to many difficult balls. However, I do not just like to defend. I like it most when I have the opportunity to attack. I have many things to improve, for example my serve. We work together as a team to improve every day, technically and mentally.
What is your age category and national ranking?
My age category is Under 10, and my current ranking is No. 4. I have also recently started playing in the Under 12 category, and I like it even more than U10.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My most important result so far was becoming national vice-champion at the Romanian National Tennis Championship in the Under 10 category. I am also very proud of my results at the National Tennis Championship in the Under 12 category, where I played two rounds of qualifying and reached the second round after defeating girls almost three years older than me.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have only played in Romania. I cannot wait to play at European and international level, but I still have to wait a few months before I can create the necessary account on the international platform.
Do you have any sponsors?
I do not have any official sponsors yet. At the moment, my parents, my grandparents, and a few close friends are the ones who support me.
What is your goal for 2026?
I started 2026 with two main goals. The first was to get as far as possible in the Romanian National Tennis Championships, and I achieved that by reaching the final and becoming national vice-champion after defeating the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals and the No. 3 seed in the semifinals. My second goal for 2026 is to reach the Top 50 nationally in the higher Under 12 age category and, why not, start playing internationally.
What is your tennis dream?
My tennis dream is to win the US Open because I like playing on hard courts the most.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Rafael Nadal because I enjoy watching sequences from his matches and I appreciate his attitude and ability to stay focused. He inspires me. I would also like to meet Jannik Sinner because I like his tennis and his story. Among the girls, I would like to meet Maja Cwalinska because I saw her match at Roland Garros and really liked her diverse game, intelligent shots, and points.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I really like drawing and knitting, which I learned from my grandmother. I also like climbing mountains, hiking, and practicing other sports for fun, such as skiing and cycling.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I dedicate this interview to those who support me, my family and my team.
