Wilma Yue · Interview, October 2026

What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Wilma Yue. I am 12 years old and I was born on August 18, 2014. I am Canadian and I live in the Toronto area, Canada.
What languages do you speak?
I speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was five years old. At first, it was just something fun to do, but the more I played, the more I fell in love with the sport. Now tennis is a huge part of my life, and I cannot imagine my life without it.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, both of my brothers play tennis too, but we can hardly play against each other without arguing. I guess that is just a sibling thing!
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Mayfair Club in Ontario, Canada.
Who are your coaches?
I started my tennis journey in Hong Kong with Coaches Wong Shu Hung, Tsui Sir, and Nikita. Now, my coach in Canada is Mark Fainblum. He helps me improve my game and always pushes me to become a better player. I am really grateful to all my coaches who have helped me along the way.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I think one of my biggest strengths is that I like to play aggressively and come to the net. I love hitting approach shots and finishing points with volleys. I am still working on becoming more consistent and making better decisions during matches, especially under pressure.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the Girls’ U12 category and have been ranked in the Top 5 in Canada in both singles and doubles.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
One of my proudest moments was winning the Girls’ U12 singles title at the 2026 Ontario Indoor Provincial Championships. Another special experience was representing Team Canada at the Lampo Trophy in Italy, where our team finished second. It was amazing to compete against girls from other countries and represent Canada.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Hong Kong, Canada, and Italy so far. I really enjoy traveling for tennis because I get to experience different cultures, make new friends, and compete against players with different playing styles.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I am really happy to be sponsored by Wilson Tennis Canada. I currently play with a Wilson Ultra 100UL racket, and I am very grateful to Wilson for supporting my tennis journey.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to keep improving and become one of the top U14 players in Canada next year. I also want to play more international tournaments and challenge myself against strong players from around the world.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to become a professional tennis player and win a Grand Slam. I know it is a really big dream and that it will take years of hard work, but I believe you should always dream big. Hopefully, one day I will be playing on Centre Court at Wimbledon or in another Grand Slam final.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Learner Tien. I got to watch him play at the National Bank Open, and after his match, he gave me his towel. I was so excited, and it is a moment I will always remember. I really like his game, but what made me an even bigger fan was how kind he was to me. It reminded me that being a great tennis player is not just about winning matches, but also about how you treat people.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I love playing volleyball. I also love spending time with my dog, Waffle. Playing with Waffle is one of my favorite ways to relax after a long day of tennis.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my family, especially my parents, who do so much to support my tennis dreams. I would also like to thank all my coaches in Hong Kong and Canada for helping me improve and believing in me, Wilson Tennis Canada for supporting my journey, and my brothers, who make life both fun and competitive.
