What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Valeria Santander. I was born on January 27, 2010. I am a Paraguayan tennis player and I currently live and train in Paraguay.
What languages ​​do you speak?
I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was five years old. From a very young age, I fell in love with the sport, and over the years it became a fundamental part of my life.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
There are no other tennis players in my family, but my family has always been very connected to sport. I grew up in a sporting environment, so from a young age I had a lot of contact with discipline, training, competition, and the values that sport teaches. Although tennis became my own path, my family has been a fundamental part of my development and journey as an athlete.
In which tennis club do you train?
I currently train at the Paraguayan Tennis Association, APT.
Who are your coaches?
My main coach is Rodrigo Zaracho.
How would you describe your playing style?
I consider myself a competitive and fighting player.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I currently compete in the ITF Junior / U18 category, and I am also starting to compete in women’s professional circuit tournaments.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
I have had several very important moments in my career. One of the most special was in 2022, when I was part of the Paraguayan team that became South American U12 champion in Punta del Este, Uruguay. In 2024, I was also part of the Paraguayan team that won the South American U14 title in Tarija, Bolivia, qualifying for the U14 World Championships in Prostejov, Czech Republic. I have also been ranked No. 1 in South America, participated in two Roland-Garros Junior qualifying events in Brazil, played the Australian Open Junior qualifying event in Brazil, and became a two-time South American champion. During the 2025 COSAT season, I won titles at Copa Indervalle in Colombia and Guayaquil Bowl in Ecuador, reached the final of the Regatas Bowl in Lima, and won the Asunción Bowl doubles title with Luciana Luna. On my first European tour, I won the ITF J30 Brussels doubles title with Luciana Luna and reached the singles semifinals.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, Czech Republic, Belgium, and Germany.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I currently use HEAD equipment and have the support of HEAD International. My HEAD equipment is part of my daily training and competition routine.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to win a WTA tournament and continue taking steps toward professional tennis.
What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to become one of the Top 5 professional players in the world. I want to represent Paraguay at the highest level, play the biggest tournaments on the circuit, and build a career I can be proud of.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player is Jannik Sinner. I really like the way he competes, his intensity, and how he constantly tries to improve. He inspires me because he shows that hard work, discipline, and mentality can take you to the highest level.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I mainly like spending time with my family. For me, it is very important to have those moments away from the court, disconnect from competition, and enjoy being with the people who are always by my side.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview first to God, for giving me the opportunity, strength, and health to do what I love every day. I also dedicate it to my family, especially my parents, for always being by my side, supporting me in good and difficult moments, and making so many sacrifices so I can keep chasing my dreams. I also thank my coach Rodrigo Zaracho, my team, Paraguay, and everyone who believes in me and supports me on this journey.
