🎙️ Penelope Borsoni Previdi | Interview, July 2026

Introduce yourself: Name, Age, Date of Birth, Nationality, City of Residence
My name is Penelope Borsoni Previdi. I am 13 years old and I was born on January 19, 2013. I am Italian and I live in Brescia, Italy.
What languages do you speak?
Italian is my mother tongue. I also speak Spanish and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis around the age of 6 or 7 with coach Vincenzo Rastelli. At first, it was just a fun game, but I began taking competitive tennis more seriously around the age of 10.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my brother Giacomo, who is one year younger than me, started tennis with me and now trains at the same academy. My parents also started playing recreationally when we began.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at Vavassori Tennis Academy, at its headquarters in Palazzolo sull’Oglio, Italy.
What is your coaching team?
My main reference is Doriano Gnocchi. I also work with Cristian Merlato, Michael Mauroner, and Stefano Bettinelli. For the physical side, Augusto Ottaviani is very important. I would also like to mention Mauro Pezzi, who was a fundamental figure for me last year.
What is your weekly training routine?
During the school year, I train every weekday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., splitting the time between fitness and tennis. Sometimes I train full days from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., which becomes my usual rhythm in the summer. Weekends are usually dedicated to tournaments or training.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
I am an imaginative and creative player. My biggest weapon is my serve, and I also have a heavy forehand. I am working hard to improve my backhand. My real secret weapon is determination: when I find the right flow in a match, I can become a difficult opponent.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I compete in the Under 14 category, and this is my first year in the two-year age group. I currently have points for 3.3 and I am aiming for 3.2 between September and December. Nationally, I am around the top 350 in the two-year category and around the top 100-150 for my birth year.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my best memories are playing the Junior Next Gen in Turin last year, where I won several rounds, and earning my first big main-draw win at a Tennis Europe tournament in Slovenia this summer. In July, my friend Anita and I reached the doubles final at the Junior Next Gen in Paderno del Grappa. I am also proud of getting strong grades at school while balancing training and tournaments.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have mainly played tournaments in Italy. I also competed in Slovenia this year.
Do you have any sponsors?
My main sponsors right now are my parents. In the coming months, I will start a synergy with HEUFORIA, an Italian sportswear brand focused on energy, comfort, and personality.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to raise the quality of my tennis and find more consistency in my varied game. I want to have the courage to use in matches the creative shots I try in practice, stay firm with my game choices, and keep building a strong mentality.
What is your tennis dream?
My concrete project is to work in the sports world because that is where my heart is. My true tennis dream is to become one of the strongest tennis players in the world.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Aryna Sabalenka. I admire her because she is explosive, fiery, and full of energy. I see a lot of myself in her, and I hope one day to meet her on the other side of the net.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I love singing, playing guitar, painting, illustrating, spending time with friends, being in nature, watching TV series, and reading while travelling. I also love skiing, even though I will stop racing next year.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to all the great players, past and present, who inspire young athletes. I also dedicate it to my whole family, including my grandparents, and to all my tennis coaches and fitness trainers for their patience, support, and help in building the best version of myself.
