What is your name, birthdate, nationality, residence?
My name is Charlie McVeigh. I was born on January 24, 2013. I am Irish and I live in Belfast.
What languages ​​do you speak?
I speak English, and I am learning German and French at school.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was four years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my mum played for Ireland in the World Championships, and my dad plays for Ulster.
In which tennis club do you train?
I train at both David Lloyd Belfast and Hawarden Tennis Club.
Who are your coaches?
My main coach is Pete Bothwell, but I also have other coaches in the Ulster and national programme.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strength is my attitude and never giving up. I would say I need to improve my physicality as I get older.
What is your age category and national ranking?
I am currently in my first year of Under 14, and I am ranked No. 1 in my age group for singles and doubles.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My biggest achievements so far are winning five Tennis Europe titles and winning the triple at the National Irish Open.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tennis in mainland Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, and Iceland.
What equipment brands do you currently use (racket, string, shoes, clothing…), and are you sponsored by any of them?
I am currently sponsored by Tecnifibre, and I use the T-Fight 285g racket, Razor Soft strings, and their clothing. For shoes, I wear Asics trainers and sometimes K-Swiss, depending on the surface I am playing on.
What is your next goal?
My next goal is to compete in the World Championships in France in January 2027.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to become a professional tennis player and win a Grand Slam.
Who is your favorite player and why?
My favorite player on the men’s side is Carlos Alcaraz because of his mentality and fight to win. On the women’s side, my favorite player is Elena Rybakina, also because of her mentality and her ability to stay calm during big moments.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I quite like to stay home and relax after a busy day, but I am also quite fond of playing hockey and squash.

I would like to dedicate this interview to my family and friends for their support, particularly my mum and dad.
