Ran Todo | Interview, February 2026

Hello, introduce yourself please.

My name is Ran Todo. I am 18 years old and was born on April 5, 2007. I am Japanese and currently live in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

What languages do you speak?

I speak Japanese and am learning English.

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started playing tennis at the age of three.

Are there other tennis players in your family?

Yes. My younger brother, Gakuto Todo, is a tennis player and my father, Ryo Todo, is a coach.

In which club do you train?

I train at the UTENA Tennis Academy.

Who are your coaches?

My coach is Ryo Todo.

What is your weekly training routine?

I train six days a week. I do weight training twice a week, for one hour each session. I also do cardio three to four times a week. I practice tennis four to five hours a day and, after training, I work on my footwork twice a week.

What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?

My greatest strength is that, despite being only about 1.50 m tall, I can play with power and aggression. My speed, which helps compensate for my height, is also one of my greatest assets.
What I want to improve is the variety in my game. I want to not only take the ball early and control the rallies, but also use shots like drop shots and lobs to destabilize my opponents both horizontally and vertically.

What is your age category and your national ranking?

I am in the under-18 category.

What have been your greatest successes so far?

Every tournament I have won has been my greatest achievement.

In which countries have you played tournaments?

I have participated in tournaments in Japan, Florida, South Korea, and Hawaii.

Do you have any sponsors?

Yes, my sponsors are HEAD and Hirayama Kiko Corporation.

What is your goal for 2026?

I’m going to university this year. My goal is to excel at the university level, become the best player on my team, and achieve something unprecedented for the university.

What is your tennis dream?

I dream of becoming a player or coach who, beyond simply mastering tennis technique, understands and applies the principles of nutrition and lifestyle tailored to each individual.

Who are your favorite tennis players?

My favorite tennis player is Simona Halep.

What do you enjoy outside of tennis?

I enjoy making beaded bracelets and going out to eat with my friends. I also appreciate the quiet of the library and discovering new books.

Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?

I dedicate this interview to my family and my coach. I also dedicate it to my sponsors, who support me every day.

Ran, thank you for the interview 🙌
