🎙️ Vasilisa Marchenko | Interview, April 2026

Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Vasilisa Marchenko. I am 13 years old. I was born in Tomsk, a small town in Siberia, on April 4, 2012. Two years ago, I moved to Moscow to pursue my tennis career.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Russian and I am learning English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 5 years old. Before tennis, I tried horse riding and worked at a modeling agency.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
There are no professional tennis players in my family, but my mother is an amateur tennis player.
In which club do you train?
I began my tennis career at Siberian Tennis Center, and now I train at Spartak Tennis Academy.
Who are the members of your team?
I train with Kirill Igorevich Nasonov and Anastasia Andreevna Myskina. My fitness coach is Sergey Trushin. I also work with a psychologist, Natalia Valerievna Verina.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train six times a week, with three hours of tennis and one hour of fitness. We also have a 45-minute warm-up with the coach before training and one hour of stretching. On Saturdays, we have two hours of tennis and one hour of cross-country running.
What is your greatest strength as a player?
I think my strength is my aggressive play. I always try to move forward and finish rallies with volleys. I also give my best from the first to the last point. I am not afraid to lose—I just go and do what I can.
What is your age category and your ranking?
I currently play in the U14 category. My best position is 8th place. I am also ranked 6th in the Russian singles ranking (with a best position of 2nd place) and 1st in the doubles ranking.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My main success is reaching the semifinal of Les Petits As. I prepared for this tournament for a long time, and I am very happy with this result. I also have many victories in Tennis Europe, including a win in Ankara, Turkey (U14 Category 2). In doubles, I won two tournaments in a row in Baku, Azerbaijan (U16 Category 3).
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have competed in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and France.
Do you have any sponsors?
After my performance at Les Petits As, I signed a contract with Wilson.
What is your goal for this year?
One of my main goals this year was Les Petits As, and now I have started competing on the ITF circuit. My goal by the end of the year is to try and play a W15.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to win a calendar Grand Slam and the Olympic Games.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Aryna Sabalenka because I think we have a similar temperament and attitude toward ourselves and our teams.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Besides tennis, I really enjoy cooking and playing chess.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to myself and my team, with whom I share this journey. I am sure that even more victories are waiting for us in the future.
