Rafael Yasinski | Interview, February 2026

Hello, introduce yourself please.

My name is Rafael Yasinski, I am 10 years old, I was born on March 29, 2015.
I have dual German and Belarusian citizenship. I live in Schwerin, Germany.

What languages do you speak?

I speak German, Russian, and English.

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started playing tennis very young, as I was born into a family of players. I began training once a week at the age of two.

Are there other tennis players in your family?

My grandgrandfather (Albert Petrenko) was a good tennis player in the UdSSR. My grandfather (Alexej Petrenko) was the head coach of the Davis Cup team in Belarus and coached the men’s national team. He now coaches ITF players. My mother (Ekaterina Yasinski) was a WTA player. My father (Maksim Yasinski) is also a tennis coach. My parents now run a tennis school in Schwerin. Finally, my aunt (Anna Petrenko) is a tennis coach in Luxembourg.

👉 More about Ekaterina & Maksim

In which club do you train?

I train in Schwerin (Germany) at Schweriner TC 1908 e.V. – the club from which Niels McDonald, winner of Roland-Garros Juniors 2025, originated.

Who are your coaches?

My coaching team consists of my parents. I have several coaches for my physical training.

What is your weekly training routine?

I train Monday through Friday, 3 to 4 hours a day (tennis and athletics).

What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?

I have a very good serve and I’m improving mentally every day; I don’t cry anymore when I lose matches 🙂 And I have amazing parents who coach me. I still need to work on my volleys and topspin.

What is your age category and your national ranking?

I play in the U11 category and sometimes in the U12 category. There’s no national ranking for 2015 in Germany, but in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, I’m number 2. I’ll be ranked next year.

What have been your greatest successes so far?

I’m the Landesmeister of Saxony and I finished second in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional championships.

In which countries have you played tournaments?

I’ve played in tournaments in Germany and Belarus.

Do you have any sponsors?

I have a sponsor, Wonnemar Schwerin, who covers the cost of renting indoor courts.

What is your goal for 2026?

This year, I hope to win the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional championship. I also dream of winning the German national championship and playing in my first TE tournament.
