🎙️Mariam Kharchilava | Interview, September 2025
Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Mariam Kharchilava, born the 26th of July, 2012.
I am a tennis player from Georgia. What languages do you speak?
My native language is Georgian, and I also speak English fluently. At what age did you start playing tennis?
I became interested in tennis relatively late compared to some players. I first tried the sport at 9 years old and spent the first year learning the basics and enjoying the game. After that year my interest deepened into a real commitment: I increased my training, focused on improving my technique and physical fitness, and set clear goals to develop as a player. Are there other tennis players in your family?
My mother used to play tennis in her childhood. Because of this, she supports me a lot in my career and helps me overcome different challenges both on and off the court. In which club do you train tennis?
I train in Tbilisi, at the Leila Meskhi Tennis Academy.Who is your tennis coach?
My main and most influential coach is Gaga Dolidze, who continues to guide my development as a player and helps me improve my technique, strategy, and mental strength on court. At the very beginning of my tennis journey, I was coached by Lika Dalakishvili. She helping me build a solid foundation and fostering my first steps in tennis. Both of them have had an important impact on my growth, and I am very grateful for their guidance. What is your weekly training routine?
I train every day except Sundays. During the day, I dedicate at least two hours to tennis practice and physical conditioning. What is your best shot and things you need to improve?
For me, the most distinctive part of my game is my forehand, which I consider technically very strong. Of course, there are many areas I still need to improve. I believe that without daily development and practice, progress in tennis is impossible. What is your junior tennis category and your national tennis ranking?
I often achieve prize-winning positions in local tournaments. Recently, I moved up to the U14 category in the Georgian Championships, and I am fully committed to giving my best and achieving excellent results. What are your best tennis results?
I consistently secure top positions in local tournaments. In which countries have you already participated in tennis tournaments?
Recently, I have competed in international tournaments in Turkey, Spain, and Germany, gaining valuable experience and testing my skills against strong opponents from around the world. What is the first country you dream of playing in?
My dream is to compete in a Grand Slam tournament. Playing at the US Open is my ultimate goal.Do you have any sponsors?
Unfortunately, I currently do not have a sponsor, but I am fully committed to training hard, improving my skills, and achieving results that will help me secure sponsorship in the future. What is your tennis dream?
First and foremost, my goal is to become the number one female tennis player in Georgia. Once I achieve that, my ultimate dream is to compete in a Grand Slam tournament, with playing at the US Open being my highest ambition.Who are your favorite tennis players?
I am a big fan of Jannik Sinner and closely follow his career. Among female players, I especially admire Emma Raducanu. What do you like to do outside of tennis?
I study at school and I aim to be an outstanding student there as well. Since my schedule is quite busy, I enjoy spending time with friends, going shopping, and family outings whenever I have free time. Thanks a lot Mariam!
