🎙️Lucilla Cordoni | Interview, November 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.

Hi, I’m Lucilla Cordoni. I’m 9 years old for a few more weeks because I was born on December 23, 2015. I’m Italian and live in Tradate, near Varese.

What languages do you speak?

I speak Italian and I am studying English.

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started playing tennis by chance. I walked by the tennis courts with my family during the free trial period. My parents asked me if I wanted to try, I said yes, and I haven’t stopped since.

Are there other tennis players in your family?

No, after two years of me starting, my dad started to get passionate about it; now he’s addicted to the ATP and WTA.

In which club do you train?

I train at Varesina Tennis Project in Castiglione Olona. Near my house.

Who are your coaches?

My first coach is Sonia Melotti, but since I started competing, I’ve been training with different coaches. This year, my coach is Alessandra Massimino.

What is your weekly training routine?

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I train for 1.5 hours with a group. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do 2 hours of physical preparation, and on weekends I often play tournaments.

As an athlete, what is your greatest quality and what do you need to improve?

I think I’m very determined. I never back down from practice and I give it 100%. I need to improve my ability to manage important points in matches.

What is your junior category and your national ranking?

This year I’m still U10 and there’s no national ranking. We’ll see next year.

What has been your greatest achievement?

Win the internal tournaments where there are also men’s tournaments. But in terms of official tournaments, win some circuit events. I’ll have my Masters in December… we’ll see how it goes.

In which countries have you already played tournament?

Always in Italy for now.

Do you have any sponsors?

Apart from my dad? No, not for now.

What is your goal for 2026?

In 2026, I’d like to continue improving and maybe reach the final stages of important national tournaments.

What is your tennis dream?

My dream is to become a professional player. I wouldn’t mind a few slams either.

Who are your favorite tennis players?

Aryna Sabalenka is the best. Let’s go tiger! Sinner and Alcaraz are also incredible.

What do you like to do outside of tennis?

I like reading and watching TV. Even some video games.

To which people would you like to dedicate this interview?

I dedicate this interview to my teachers, but above all to my parents, who always support me.

Thanks a lot Lucilla!
