Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Luana Tuesta Vargas Machuca. I am 16 years old and I was born on September 24, 2009. I am Peruvian and I live in Lima, Peru. I am a junior tennis player competing in the U18 category.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish, English, and a little Portuguese.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 4 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, I am the only tennis player in my family. My mother plays basketball, my father plays basketball and runs, and my brother is a goalkeeper.
In which club do you train?
I train at Rinconada Country Club.
Who are your coaches?
My coaches are Ricardo Ramos and Brahustom Salas.
What is your weekly training routine?
From Monday to Friday, I train 3 hours per day, and on Saturdays I train 2 hours.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My greatest strength as a player is my serve, but I need to improve my mental game, especially in moments of frustration.
What is your age category and your ranking?
I compete in the U18 category. My current UTR is 5.55 in singles and 4.84 in doubles. I am ranked No.21 in U18 and No.15 in 1st category in Peru. I do not have an ITF ranking yet.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
Some of my best achievements so far include supporting the Unidos por el Tenis foundation by giving tennis lessons to children in the Huachipa district of Peru, winning and reaching finals in doubles in U16 and U18 federation tournaments, being a finalist in a UTR tournament, winning tournaments in the 4th category, and reaching No.7 in the U18 ranking at the age of 13.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have only played tournaments in Peru, in cities such as Lima, Arequipa, Chiclayo, and Trujillo. This year, I hope to compete in ITF tournaments abroad and gain international experience.
Do you have any sponsors?
I do not have any sponsors yet.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to improve my UTR, achieve a good ITF ranking, and earn a university scholarship through tennis.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to play college tennis in the USA and travel around the world through tennis.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Carlos Alcaraz because he is my favorite player. I really admire his game and his competitive spirit. It would be a dream come true to see him play in person.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy watching TV series and movies, baking desserts, and spending time with my family and friends. I am also a big music fan, especially of One Direction.

I would like to dedicate this interview to my parents, who have always supported me and motivated me to keep working toward my goals.
