🎙️ Gia Antonella Pineda Carballo | Interview, March 2026
Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Gia Antonella Pineda Carballo. I am 14 years old. I am Colombian and I live in Chile.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish and English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
Incredibly, at 11 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
None, only me.
In which club do you train?
Club de Golf los Lirios.
What is your coaching team?
Sebastian Fonseca, Camila Quininao, Javier Avendano.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train from 8:30 am until 5 pm.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My strength is my mind. All the coaches in Chile tell me this in every tournament I play.
What is your age category and your ranking?
U16 category. I stopped giving importance to ranking. For me, what matters at this age is to improve and improve. To give you an idea, these days I played against the No.1 player in Chile in the U16 category and I won the first set 6-0, and I had to retire due to injury in the second set. I have already recovered, thank God.
What have been your greatest achievements so far?
Many. I am always among the top 5 players in Chile in terms of level. In ranking, those who have more money to travel to tournaments are ahead. I go to fewer tournaments and still I am among the best.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
Chile and Argentina. Now I am going to Mallorca, Spain, to Rafa Nadal Academy. I won a one-week scholarship there among more than 100 players in Chile, and I was the only one who won the prize.
Do you have any sponsors?
No, only my father, with a lot of effort. I really need support.
What is your goal for 2026?
To stay at Rafa Nadal Academy as a junior tennis promise.
What is your tennis dream?
To be No.1 in the world. I will fight for it. I do not see it as impossible. With hard work and support, it can be achieved. I play against the best players in South America who have trained since they were 4 years old, and I have only been playing for 3 years, and we are almost at the same level. Discipline is one of my passions.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
There are many, but especially Rafa Nadal because he represents the most resilient values of the game. He was all heart and determination, and I think my game is like that, pushing my opponents to the limit.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Drawing, spending time with my family, and enjoying peace and calm, which is my balance outside tennis.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
First of all, to God. And secondly, to my father and my coach, who have believed in me since day one, and together we have achieved unimaginable things in a short time.
