🎙️Emma Olaya | Interview, September 2025
Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Emma Olaya, I am proudly a Colombian tennis player, 8 years old. I was born in Cali, Colombia on July 28, 2017.What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish as my native language and also English, which allows me to communicate and connect both on and off the court in international settings. At what age did you start playing tennis?
My first time on a tennis court was when I was only 18 months old, starting with coordination exercises through red ball tennis and oversized plastic balls (what in Colombia we call tenis rodado). I officially started competing at the age of 4 with red balls. Are there other tennis players in your family?
Tennis is a very important part of my family’s life. My father is a passionate fan and player, my cousins are national athletes now competing in the USA, my brother is also a passionate player and my mom loves competing and having tennis as a education tool for our lives. In which club do you train tennis?
My official training center is Club Farallones in Cali.Who is your tennis coach?
I train under coach Jose Serna and Andres Morales and my physical trainer is Jorge Vargas. What is your weekly training routine?
Currently, I train 10 hours of tennis per week plus 3 hours of physical conditioning. What is your junior tennis category and your national tennis ranking?
I compete in the Under-8 category. What are your best tennis results?
In 2025, I have already participated in 5 tournaments, reaching the final rounds in all of them. Some as a champion some as a finalist. I also enjoyed playing Doubles with my friends. In which countries have you already participated in tennis tournaments?
I have played in Colombia, the USA, and Mexico, and in the next two years, I hope to keep traveling and discovering new countries through the International tournaments, if God allows me…Do you have any sponsors?
Right now, my biggest sponsors are my parents, who support me in every possible way — mentally, emotionally, and always being there for me. One day, I would love to have an official sponsor who can help me achieve all my goals and continue growing in this sport. I currently play with Yonex EZONE, I love their technology, and all my gear is Yonex. What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to grow as a tennis player, competing at higher levels while enjoying every step of the journey, and at the same time to nurture my passion for art as a way to express who I am. I want to keep combining both worlds—sport and creativity—to inspire others and to show that discipline and imagination can go hand in hand.Who are your favorite tennis players?
My favorite players are Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Świątek because of their power, consistency, and mental strength on court. I also admire Emiliana Arango, since she represents inspiration from my region and shows how dedication can open paths in international tennisWhat do you like to do outside of tennis?
Outside the court, I love spending time with my pets and exploring my passion for art. They give me balance and happiness beyond competition—my pets remind me of unconditional joy and care, while art allows me to express creativity and imagination. Both are a big part of who I am and keep me grounded when I’m not playing tennis. Thanks a lot Emma!
