🎙️Emily Zingg | Interview, October 2025
Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Emily Zingg, I am 14 years old, born on August 3, 2011.
I am Swiss but half Scottish😊.
I live in Mörigen, a small lakeside village on Lake Biel, near the city of Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. What languages do you speak?
I am very lucky to be fluent in English and German since my mum is Scottish and my dad is Swiss.
Now living in Mallorca, I am learning Spanish, and I also learned French at school in Switzerland. At what age did you start playing tennis?
I first picked up a racket at age 5 and instantly fell in love with the game. I started training more seriously at 7, which really set the foundation for my development. Are there other tennis players in your family?
Tennis flows through our family — my Scottish grandparents and Swiss grandpa all played, my parents take weekly lessons, and my little sister Sophie trains hard and competes in tournaments like me, making it a true family passion. In which club do you train tennis?
I go to school, live and train at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, and when I am home for holidays, I play at my Swiss club, Lust Auf Tennis.Who are your coaches?
The brilliant Rafa Nadal Academy coaches Bruno Squarcia and Mariana Pereira. What is your weekly training routine?
1.5 hours of fitness and 2.5 hours of tennis every day, with international and local tournaments at weekends. As an athlete, what is your greatest quality and what do you need to improve?
My greatest quality is my motivation and work ethic — I always give 100%.
I am working on improving my mental game to stay positive, composed, and confident under pressure. What is your junior tennis category and your national tennis ranking?
I am currently ranked R4 in Switzerland, which I achieved in just 1.5 years.
I have just started my UTR journey, and with my upcoming tournaments in Spain, I will also have a Spanish ranking. What has been your greatest achievement?
My biggest success so far has been moving to Mallorca on my own to be accepted into the elite Rafa Nadal Academy.
I have also won several Swiss tournaments and had the incredible experience of being a ball girl at the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel. In which countries have you already participated in tennis tournaments?
I have already played tournaments in Greece, Mallorca, Switzerland, and Florida.
I love traveling for tennis, and at the Rafa Nadal Academy, I’ll get the chance to compete in even more countries.Do you have any sponsors?
Not yet, but I am looking — having sponsors would be amazing and really help me grow in my tennis journey. What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to perform well in international tournaments, continue developing my game, get stronger, and, most importantly, keep improving while enjoying the process. What is your tennis dream?
Improve relentlessly — every match, every year — to reach professional tennis.Who are your favorite tennis players?
My female inspiration is Belinda Bencic, who is a fantastic role model for young girls in tennis.
Of course, Rafa Nadal is another favorite because of his humility, incredible work ethic, resilience, and the respect and kindness he shows both on and off the court.
I also recently met João Fonseca, a rising star from Brazil, who is already setting a great example for young players.
All of these athletes are not only brilliant on the court but also humble, hardworking, kind, respectful, and resilient qualities that make them excellent role models for kidsWhat do you like to do outside of tennis?
Tennis is my main passion — I love watching it, playing it, and immersing myself in the sport.
But I’m all about sports in general and staying active. I enjoy laughing and spending time with friends, skiing, playing ice hockey, and anything adrenaline-packed, like rollercoasters. To which people would you like to dedicate this interview?
I would like to dedicate this interview first to my parents, little sister, and my Scottish Grandma, whose unwavering support has made my tennis journey possible.
I also want to thank all my coaches who have guided me along the way — Miguel Mateos and Maks Braziewicz at my Swiss club, Lust Auf Tennis — and Bruno Squarcia and Mariana Pereira from the Rafa Nadal Academy, where I currently train. Thanks a lot Emily!
