🎙️Edurne Tortajada Ros | Interview, January 2026

Hello, introduce yourself please.

Hello, I’m Edurne Tortajada Ros, I’m 13 years old, born on August 7, 2012. I’m Spanish and I live in Sagunto (Valencia).

What languages do you speak?

I speak Spanish and English.

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started playing tennis at age 9.

Are there other tennis players in your family?

There are no tennis players in my family.

In which club do you train?

Currently, I play for Scude Nules, but I’ve trained at many clubs.

Who are your coaches?

I’ve trained with different coaches. Each of them has given me experiences that have made me a very well-rounded player, with many resources and, above all, a great capacity for adaptation.

What is your weekly training routine?

My training routine is daily. I get up at 6:00, pack my gear, have breakfast, and at 9:00 I start training. I train every day, although I rest some weekends and between tournaments. I do 2 hours of on-court practice with live balls and 1 hour of physical conditioning in the mornings. In the afternoons, I do another 2 hours of on-court practice and doubles.

What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?

My greatest strength is my ability to get back up and improve after every defeat. I’m still developing and have many things to improve. There’s always room for improvement.

What is your age category and your national ranking?

My age group is Under 14, but since becoming the Spanish Under 12 Champion, I’ve started playing in higher categories. I currently play Under 14-16 and also Under 18-Junior. I am ranked among the top 100 players in Spain across all categories.

What have been your greatest successes so far?

My greatest success is exceeding the goals I set for myself. There’s no such thing as a bad or better tournament. Each one offers something different. They are experiences that we accumulate and that make us better and better.

  • Catalan Champion U14 in 2025
  • Vilas Trophy Runner-up U14/U16 in 2025
  • Spanish Champion U12 2024 (individual, doubles, and team)
  • Open Benjamin Gradignan Runner-up U12 in 2024
In which countries have you played tournaments?

I’ve played in several European countries. Mainly in Spain, but also in France, Portugal, and Romania. Traveling is expensive, and my parents are my source of funding. I’m looking for an investor who believes in my project and can help me achieve my goal of being among the best junior players before 2027 and playing in the Junior Grand Slams. To do this, I need to be able to travel and compete in tournaments that will give me experience and help me improve my game.

Do you have any sponsors?

Currently, I have the support of Wilson, K-Swiss, and Nutrisport. They all help me with sports equipment.

What is your goal for 2026?

My goal for 2026 is to compete in the Tennis Europe Super Category tournaments for Under 14-16 players and on the ITF Junior circuit.

What is your tennis dream?

My dream is already coming true. I’m doing what I love, which is playing tennis. Competing with the best tennis players in my age group and higher. Experiencing different circuits and in different cities and countries, so that in a few years I can be on the professional circuit and break into the Top 100. It’s a ladder where each step I climb brings me closer to my goal of playing in the Grand Slams alongside my favorites, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.

Who are your favorite tennis players?

Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.

What do you enjoy outside of tennis?

Besides tennis, I like listening to music, singing, and drawing. I also like to read, watch movies, and play Parcheesi and Bingo. Tennis is a very demanding sport and leaves little free time. In addition, I also have to study and help my parents with household chores.

Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?

I dedicate this interview to all the girls who share my dream but can’t achieve it. Tennis is an expensive sport; it requires dedication, and family support is crucial. I have incredible parents who help me with everything, and thanks to them, I’ve been able to become the Spanish Champion and am currently among the best junior tennis players in Europe. I’m currently number 1 in my country in my category and number 13 in Europe. I’m going to keep fighting for my dream of becoming a professional tennis player, and I encourage all girls and their parents to believe that it’s possible with faith. Many people will tell you it’s very difficult, that only 0.2% make it because tennis is a very expensive sport and that you can’t get there without sponsors, etc., but it’s all a lack of faith. We must have faith in ourselves and find people who also believe in us. I will continue to have faith in myself, surpassing every goal I set for myself and seeking out people and companies to join my project. If any company or investor reads this interview, it would be great if they contacted my parents.

Thank you for the interview, Edurne 🙌
