Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Darius Sterea. I am 12 years old, I was born on November 9, 2013, and I am from the Republic of Moldova. I live in Chisinau.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Romanian, Russian, English, and German.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 4.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
In my family, my sister also plays tennis. She is 9 years old and started playing at the age of 5. My parents also play, but they are amateurs.
In which club do you train?
I train at the Specialized Tennis Sports School of Moldova.
Who is your coach?
My coach is Mrs. Cosic Olga.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train tennis 5 times per week, with 5 sessions of 1.5 hours each, plus 2 physical training sessions of 1 hour each.
What are your strengths as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My biggest strengths are my backhand and drop shot. I admit I still need to improve my smash.
What is your age category and your ranking?
This year I started playing in the U14 age category. I finished the U12 category ranked 8th nationally.
What have been your greatest results so far?
In the U12 category: 3rd place Team – Tennis Plus Cup 2024 – together with Josan Anastasia. 2nd place Doubles – Chisinau Open Championship 2025 – together with Vainberg Robert-Natan. Quarterfinals Singles – Chisinau Open Championship 2025. 3rd place Singles – DSJ Braila Trophy Tournament. Quarterfinals Singles – FNTM Cup 2025. 4th place – Moldova Summer Cup 2025. 4th place – National “Masters” Circuit of Moldova 2025.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have played tournaments in the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
Do you have any sponsors?
At the moment, I do not have any sponsors.
What is your goal for 2026?
In 2026, I aim to win as many matches as possible. I plan to play at least 20 tournaments, including both national and international events.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to win the career Grand Slam and to be one of the best players.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would most like to meet Carlos Alcaraz. He is my idol. I closely follow his matches and try to apply some of his techniques in my own game.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to stay active in my free time. We often play outdoor games, organize picnics, or go play VR and board games.
