🎙️Daniela Nazábal Fernandez | Interview, October 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Daniela Nazábal Fernandez, I am 10 years old, I was born on May 15, 2015, I am Spanish and I live in Madrid.

What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish and English, and I am starting to learn German.

At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 8 years old because I loved watching my sister play.

Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my older sister is 12 years old — my father also played tennis when he was young, and now he has started playing with us again.

In which club do you train tennis?
At High-performance Tennis School, European University.

Who is your tennis coach?
My coaches are Israel Ruano and Fabio, who help me and demand a lot from me and always encourage me to keep learning.

What is your weekly training routine?
I train 3 days a week, about 2 hours a day, and I also do physical conditioning twice a week for 1 hour.
On weekends I play in the FTM Junior Challenger tournament in Madrid and some RFET national tournaments around Spain.

As an athlete, what is your greatest quality and what do you need to improve?
I think my best strength is that I never give up, I fight for every point, and my forehand.
What I need to improve is maintaining concentration when matches are going against me — my serve, and strengthening my backhand.

What is your junior tennis category and your national tennis ranking?
I’m in the under-10 category, and right now I’m number 34 in the Spanish national ranking and number 5 in the Madrid regional ranking.

What has been your greatest achievement?
Always wanting to win, and when I do, it feels incredible.

In which countries have you already participated in tennis tournaments?
I’ve played tournaments in Spain and Portugal.

Do you have any sponsors?
I don’t have any yet, but I’d like to have one someday.

What is your goal for 2026?
My goal is to keep improving and enjoying tennis, not get frustrated if I lose and learn from that defeat, play more national tournaments, and maybe an international tournament.

What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to be a professional tennis player and play at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Who are your favorite tennis players?
I love Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Aryna Sabalenka because they are incredibly competitive.

What do you like to do outside of tennis?
I like math, reading, athletics, listening to music, and watching adventure and comedy movies.

To which people would you like to dedicate this interview?
I dedicate it to my parents, who always support me, and to my coaches, for believing in me.

Thank you so much for the opportunity! Hugs!

Thanks a lot Daniela!
