🎙️ Bidenam Samson Tchakpala | Interview, March 2026
Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Bidenam Samson Tchakpala. I was born on January 1, 2009. I am from Benin and I live in Parakou. I am a junior tennis player competing in the U18 category.
What languages do you speak?
I speak French.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes, my older brother Pierre and my younger brother Basile also play tennis.
In which club do you train?
I train at Tennis Club CAS Parakou.
Who is your coach?
My coaching team consists of one main coach, Yannick Tohouessou.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train at least four times a week, including Wednesday afternoons, Saturday mornings and evenings, and Sunday mornings. I also train on other days depending on my school schedule and availability.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve?
My main strengths are my forehand and backhand power, my variety on serve, and my ability to play drop shots and volleys. I feel comfortable in many areas of my game. However, I need to improve my consistency and especially my mental strength. When I overcome fear, I can play my best tennis and make the difference in key moments.
What is your age category and your ranking?
I compete in the U18 category. I do not have an international ranking yet due to financial limitations, so I mainly play national tournaments in Benin.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
In the U12 category, I was a finalist and finished second, and I represented my country internationally, finishing third with my team. In the U14 category, I finished third again and was selected for international competition where we also finished third. More recently, I reached the quarterfinals in national competitions and I am now competing in the junior category.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
So far, I have mainly played in Benin. I had the opportunity to be selected for a junior circuit in Ghana, but it was not successful due to limited resources.
Do you have any sponsors?
I have recently had some support opportunities, but sponsorship is not yet fully secured or stable.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal for 2026 is to play as many tournaments as possible, compete against new opponents, and especially win the national junior championship to prepare for the senior level.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to play in the biggest tournaments in the world like Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open, and one day fight to win them.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Carlos Alcaraz because I admire his style, his attitude on and off the court, and his complete game. He is my biggest inspiration.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
Outside of tennis, I enjoy playing football with my friends and helping people when I can.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to Diego Girado, Paco Munoz, and especially my coach Yannick Tohouessou, who introduced me to tennis and supports me every day.
