🎙️Antonia Borsan | Interview, Jul 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Antonia Borsan, I am 12 years old, born in 2013. I am Romanian and I live in Bucharest, Romania.

At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 4 years old. I fell in love with the sport right away and I’ve been training consistently ever since.

Are there other tennis players in your family?
There are no professional players in my family, but my father enjoys playing tennis recreationally. He was the one who first introduced me to the sport.

What is your club?
I train at Tennis Team Bucharest, one of the most respected clubs in the country for junior development.

Who is your coach?
I am coached by Adrian Marcu, who is a former coach of Simona Halep, and by Manuel Nicolae, who is also a Federal Coach. They both support and challenge me to grow as a player every day.

How many hours a week do you train tennis and do physical training?
I usually train about 14–16 hours a week: around 10 hours on court for tennis and 4–6 hours of fitness and physical conditioning. I also do recovery sessions and stretching to stay healthy and prevent injuries.

Do you have any sponsors?
Not yet — I don’t currently have sponsors, but I am open to collaborations that support junior athletes on their development journey.

What racket do you play with?
I play with a Yonex Vcore 100I. I love the control and power it gives me, especially during rallies and when I attack the ball.

What are your best results so far and your national ranking?
My best national ranking was No. 24 in Romania for U12. Recently, I became Champion in doubles at a U14, Category 1 tournament. I’ve also won several U12 singles titles at national tournaments.

In which countries have you ever been to play tennis?
So far, I have played tournaments in Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria. I’m looking forward to competing in more international events soon.

What is your tennis dream?
My biggest dream is to become a professional tennis player and one day win Wimbledon. I know it takes a lot of work and discipline, but I’m ready to give everything for it.

Who are your favorite male and female tennis players?
My favorite players are Aryna Sabalenka and Rafael Nadal. I admire Aryna’s powerful game and fighting spirit, and Nadal’s mental toughness and passion for the sport have always inspired me.

Thanks a lot Antonia. Tennis Papers wishes you the best…
