🎙️Amina Doumbia | Interview, Aug 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.
Hi! My name is Amina Doumbia. I’m 10 years old, born in September 2014, and I’m Ivorian-American.
I live in Colorado, USA — way up at 6,500 feet, so I get extra endurance training every day!

At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis when I was 5 years old, and I’ve loved it ever since.

Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes! My dad plays and is also one of my coaches. We spend a lot of time on court together, so tennis is definitely a family thing.

What is your club?
I train at Lifetime Fitness Colorado Springs (@lifetime.co.springs) — but honestly, I’ll play anywhere we can find a court!

Who are your coaches?
My main coaches are Coach Ryan Reeves (@ryanreeves_training), Chris Roman (chrisroman10s) and my dad (@abdoulaye_doumbia).

How many hours a week do you train tennis and do physical training?
I train 30+ hours a week. That includes tennis, strength training, plyometrics, martial arts for footwork and discipline, and mental training. When I’m home, I study matches and watch videos to keep learning.

Do you pay attention to your diet, food and drink?
Yes! Nutrition is huge for me. I eat protein to build muscles, carbs for energy, and keep my meals clean for top performance. I drink a lot of water, coconut water, and use Redmond’s electrolytes — especially since I train at high altitude.

What is your junior category and your national ranking?
On TennisRecruiting.net, I’m ranked #13 in my class.
I’m #1 in Colorado and #1 in the Intermountain District.
In USTA national U12 rankings, I’m currently #350 and moving up every week.

What are your best performances?
🏆 Winning the Rocky Mountain State Games
🏆 Winning the Apex ITA Summer Championships in singles and doubles with my best friend
🏆 Winning the Consolation Draw at my first Level 3 tournament this summer

Do you have any sponsors?
Yes — I’m proudly sponsored by Yonex.

What racket do you play with?
I play with the Yonex VCORE 100 strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro strings and a Yonex Super Grap overgrip.

In which countries have you ever been to play tennis?
I’ve played in the United States, Canada, France, and Ivory Coast.

What is your tennis dream?
To become a professional tennis player, win Grand Slams, and bring more recognition to tennis in Ivory Coast and Africa as a whole. I want to inspire African kids to believe they can compete on the biggest stages in the world.

Who are your favorite tennis players?
Vicky Mboko, Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka, and two amazing players with Ivorian roots — Eliakim Coulibaly and Moise Kouame. They inspire me to dream bigger and work harder every day.

Thanks a lot Amina!
Tennis Papers wishes you the best in your tennis life 💜🩷
