🎙️ Abdul Aziz Amjad Al-Rumi | Interview, March 2026

Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Abdul Aziz Amjad Al-Rumi. I was born on January 27, 2016. I am Syrian and I live in Hama, Syria.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Arabic, and I am working hard to learn English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis at the age of 5.
Are there other tennis players in your family?
My father is a former player in the Syrian championships and is currently a coach. My uncles are also former players who won third place in the Syrian U14 Championship.
In which club or team do you play?
I currently play for my city’s team, Hama, and I have been called up to the Syrian national team to participate in the West Asian U12 Championship.
Who is your coach?
My father,Amjad Al-Rumi, is my coach and works on all aspects: technique, tactics, and fitness. We lack a psychological support team to prepare me for tournaments.
What is your weekly training routine?
I train every day in the summer for an hour or more in the afternoon, and we increase the training intensity before participating in tournaments. We take a short break in the winter due to school.
What are your strengths as a player?
My strengths are calmness, high concentration, patience, and not rushing to score points.
What is your age category and your ranking?
My age group is U10, and I am ranked number one in Syria for the year 2025 and the beginning of 2026.
What have been your greatest successes so far?
My greatest success was winning first place in my first participation in the Syrian National Championship and reaching the finals of all the national championships I participated in in 2025.
In which countries have you played tournaments?
I have only played in national championships in Syria. I was called up to represent the Syrian national team in the West Asian Championships in the Kingdom of Bahrain, but the regional events that are happening now prevented the tournament from being held.
Do you have any sponsors?
I do not have any sponsors at the moment.
What is your goal for 2026?
My goal in 2026 is to maintain my number one ranking and participate in an international tournament representing the Syrian national team.
What is your tennis dream?
My dream in tennis is to become a professional player in ATP tournaments.
Which player would you most like to meet and why?
My dream is to meet Roger Federer because he is a role model of a calm, ethical, and persevering player.
What do you enjoy doing outside of tennis?
I enjoy playing football when I am away from tennis.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?
I dedicate this interview to my family, especially my father, my coach, my friends, the Syrian tennis community, and young players. I want to be a role model for them in training, effort, and perseverance, and to shine and maintain the championship.
Any final words?
Finally, I thank you for giving me this opportunity and this wonderful and elegant interview. I hope the future is bright and that I achieve what I dream of, and what my father dreams of.
