Amelia Tomlinson | Interview, February 2026
Hello, introduce yourself please. My name is Amelia Tomlinson, I’m 13 years old, British, and I live in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK.
What languages do you speak?English.
At what age did you start playing tennis?I started playing tennis seriously when I was 11. I began later than many players, which means I’ve had to work hard to catch up, but I love that challenge.
Are there other tennis players in your family? No, I’m the only tennis player in my family, but they are my biggest supporters.
In which club do you train?I train at Over & In at Hills Road Performance Centre in Cambridge, and I also play and compete at my local club Huntingdon.
Who are your coaches?I work with two coaches for individuals (Josh and Evie Williams✨), squad coaches, and a strength & conditioning coach (Tony – TC). They push me every week to improve technically, physically, and mentally.
What is your weekly training routine?I train around 15 hours per week alongside school:
• 2 hours individual coaching
• 8 hours squad training
• 2 hours structured strength & conditioning
• 2 hours independent hitting
• 1 hour independent fitness workI also compete in tournaments twice per month, organise extra practice sessions whenever I can, hit weekly with a talented local 8-year-old player, and volunteer regularly at my club — especially helping at junior girls’ events.
What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you need to improve? My biggest strengths are my athleticism, speed, and work ethic. I’m very competitive and I don’t give up easily. I’m currently working on improving my tactical awareness and staying consistent under pressure.
What is your age category and your national ranking?I compete in the 14U category and am currently ranked inside the top three players in my county (Cambridgeshire).
What have been your greatest successes so far?Breaking into the top three in my county within a short time of competing seriously. I’ve won multiple 14U events and competed strongly in higher age categories, which has been really rewarding.
In which countries have you played tournaments?I’ve trained in Italy and Turkey, and if I go away on holiday I’ll always try to find a tennis court! I’m hoping to compete internationally this year during family trips and gain more experience playing abroad.
Do you have any sponsors?I’m currently supported by Primary Sports Stars Cambridge Ltd, and I’m working towards building further partnerships to support my development.
What is your goal for 2026?To continue improving physically and technically, compete consistently at national level, and keep climbing the rankings in my age group.
What is your tennis dream? To dream big — to win Grand Slams one day, to be memorable on court, and to inspire other young players, especially girls, to believe in themselves.
Who are your favorite tennis players?Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Hannah Klugman. I admire their competitiveness, confidence, and the way they carry themselves on and off the court.
What do you enjoy outside of tennis?Spending time with friends and family, staying active, and eating! I love refuelling after training. I also enjoy helping younger players at my club and encouraging more girls to get involved in tennis.
Who would you like to dedicate this interview to?To my family and coaches who support me every day — and especially to my little sister, who makes me smile every single day, even when I walk through the door after a tough match or training session.
Mills, thank you for the interview 🙌
Tennis Papers wishes you all the best in your tennis journey 💜🩷
