🎙️Maia Holguín Muñoz | Interview, August 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.
My name is Maia Holguín Muñoz, I’m 18 years old and my birthday is February 13, 2007.
I’m from Manizales, and I’ve lived in that city my whole life.
I’m very happy to be Colombian and from Manizales.

At what age did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis before I turned 7.

Are there other tennis players in your family?
No, but everyone is very passionate about it.

What is your club?
I train tennis at Liga Caldense de Tenis.

Who is your coach?
My coaches are Sebastian Giraldo and Alex Perez Cortes.

How many hours a week do you train tennis and do physical training?
My training is divided into three parts: physical preparation, training, and matches.

  • Training is 5 days a week, 4 or 3 hours a day.
  • Physical preparation is 6 or 7 hours a week, 1 hour a day, and sometimes a little more.
  • Matches depend on whether I have a tournament, but they’re usually at least 2 matches a week.

Do you pay attention to your diet, food and drink?
I’m very careful with my diet. I love eating lots of natural protein, lots of fruit, and good carbohydrates. I don’t like junk food, and I eat very little sugar, but only what’s necessary for a good diet. I drink a lot of water, and I hydrate very well.

What is your junior category, what is your national ranking, what are your best results?
I play as an 18-year-old female and I’m in the top 50 nationally, and a few months ago I even made it into the top 30.
I’ve won several G4s, several G3s, and reached the finals of G2s and G1s, all in the 18-year-old category.

Do you have any sponsors?
Not really, but my family has always helped me in any way they could.

What racket do you play with?
I play with a Head Gravity Tour racket.

In which countries have you ever been to play tennis?
I have played in United States and Colombia.

What is your tennis dream?
I want to go as far as I can. I want to prove to myself that I’m capable of achieving whatever I set my mind to, and one of those goals is Wimbledon.

Who are your favorite tennis players?
Iga Swiatek, Ben Shelton

Thanks a lot Maia!
