🎙️Emily Liang | Interview, Jul 2025

Hello, introduce yourself please.
Hi, my name is Emily Liang. I was born in Australia, March 2013. I am 12 this year.
I’m currently playing in the Under 12 category but I’m starting to transition into Under 14s, which is both exciting and a great challenge.

At what age did you start playing tennis?
My family celebrated my 1st birthday on the tennis court with all their friends.
Since I pick up a tennis racquet for the first time when I was 3, I knew it was something special.

Are there other tennis players in your family?
Yes! Both of my parents are tennis enthusiasts, so I was surrounded by the sport from a young age.

What is your club?
I play for Meriden School, one of Sydney’s leading independent girls’ schools, where I also get great support for balancing sport and study.

Who is your coach?
I’m incredibly lucky to have a real team behind me rather than just one coach. Brian, my Meriden Head Coach puts in endless hours to guide my day to day development. Nick at The Ark, my touring coach pushes me to think like a smart player on court. From ages 8 to 11—such a critical window—Adam at Voyager laid down the technical foundations I still rely on. And my very first coach, Patricia (now coaching in Greece), shaped the attacking game style that defines me today.

How many hours a week do you train tennis and do physical training?
Each week, I do around 15 hours on court and 5 hours in the gym.

Do you have any sponsors?
Yes, I’m currently sponsored by HEAD with the equipment and clothes.
Also I am sponsored by True Tennis AU for the professional stringing service.
I’m very grateful for their support—it makes a big difference to my training and performance.

What racket do you play with?
I play with the Extreme MP Lite racquet – I love the spin!

What are your best results so far and your national ranking?
Some of my highlights are:
• Margaret Court Cup Singles Champion
• Rod Laver Lead-in Double Champion
• Australian Team Championships Winner
• 2-time National Doubles Finalist
My best national ranking is 3rd on the Tennis Australia Master Leader Board.

In which countries have you ever been to play tennis?
Australia, China and Hongkong.

What is your tennis dream?
My dream is to play and study as a student-athlete at an Ivy League university.
I want to keep improving as a player while also getting a top education.

Who are your favorite male and female tennis players?
My favourite female player is Coco Gauff – I love her resilience, confidence, and the way she fights for every point.
My favourite male player is Roger Federer – He plays with such grace and control on court, and off the court, he is always humble and respectful.

Thanks a lot Emily!
Tennis Papers wishes you the best in your tennis life 💜🩷
