Meet Abla Smili, Moroccan girl junior tennis player who lives in Ottawa, Canada and competing in U14 tennis category.

Hello, introduce yourself please.

Hi, thank you for giving me the opportunity to do an interview with Tennis Papers.
My name is Abla Smili, I’m 14 years old, I was born on April 21, 2011.
I’m Moroccan, and I live in Ottawa, Canada.

What languages do you speak?

French, English, Arabic

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started playing tennis at the age of 5.

Are there other tennis players in your family?

Yes, my cousin.

In which club do you train?

I train at the Score Tennis Academy.

Who are your coaches?

My coach is Sean Sweeney.

What is your weekly training routine?

I start training every day noon at school (I am in sport and study program) then I go directly to the academy for 2:30hours sessions beginning with 30 min of warm-up, then 1:30 hours of technical work and 30 min workouts.

As an athlete, what is your greatest quality and what do you need to improve?

My greatest quality in tennis is my forehand and I need to improve my back in and step in in the backhand. My main quality is self-overcoming. As someone who is diabetic type 1 and celiac, I constantly manage my health constraints while maintaining high competitive level, this has taught me discipline, resilience, and the ability to give my best in every situation.

What is your junior category and your national ranking?

My junior category ranking is 45 in Ontario in U14 and 102 in national.
As I am injured (osgood schlatter) and Meniscus tear, I don’t play any tournaments since mid of October.

What has been your greatest achievement?

My best success was to win two tournaments in Canada once arrived summer 2025 and even I am injured.

In which countries have you already played tournament?

I played tournament in Morocco, Spain, Tunisia, Canada.

Do you have any sponsors?

I don’t have sponsors but I would love to have one and I want to be a voice for diabetics and all children’s with diseases who are struggling everyday and to give them a hope.

What is your goal for 2026?

First of all recover! Then win ITF and Canadian tournaments and increase my UTR.

What is your tennis dream?

My tennis dream is to win Roland-Garros and Wimbledon and be a model for all kids who are struggling everyday.

Who are your favorite tennis players?

My favorite tennis players are Sabalenka, Sinner, Kyrgios.

What do you like to do outside of tennis?

I like to play volleyball, drawing, doing handmade crafts and chill.

To which people would you like to dedicate this interview?

My father and all diabetics.
